To call this a visual novel wouldn't be close to doing it justice. Sure it had strong elements of choose your own, with multiple paths, different results and endings - but on a MASSIVE SCALE! The characters were amazing, all with their own stories, paths, relationships and motives. There were tons of locations. The war element was interesting, historically informative and at times heavy. But the story here, the characters, the gameplay and the feeling of free choice made this game pretty darn incredible. I like all kinds of games, from adventure, to P&C, to hidden object, to shooters, etc and I still thoroughly enjoyed this game very very much. The authors obviously put ABSOLUTELY TONS of love, creativity, research and probably thousands of hours into the conversations, interactions, relationships between multiple characters and how it all plays out as the story goes along, at certain branch paths and ultimately the end results. You truly get different experiences upon subsequent play-throughs. Bravo. Can't wait to play this again soon. LOTS of love went into this gem of a game/story/novel (could be a movie) and it shows!!!!

A very good narrative RPG, with no fights and all dialogue. People clamoring for more Disco Elysium should give this a whirl, as well as anyone wanting to play a good "choices matters" game. Highly recommended.

Playing this game during winter season with the snow falling outside your window with a cup of coffee by your side only added more immersion to this already highly immersive RPG! As others have already pointed out, Gerda does feel somewhat invincible at times; like no matter what comes along she'll always be out of harms way. It also would've been a big plus if you got to know the characters on a bit more deeper level. This, however, was greatly improved in the DLC! Other than that, Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a thrilling and thought provoking experience that every RPG lover out there should get their hands on immediately! The very definition of a hidden gem. Hatts off to the devs! 9.5/10.

Very intriguing story with interesting characters in a sinister setting where every decision seems to be bad in one way or another. The painting-like visuals and the music add to the atmosphere, while the historical facts remind us that the horrors of this setting have been all too real.
