This game deserves a lot more attention in my opinion. It is one of the most fun roguelikes that I've played. Genome Guardian is similiar to games like Vampire Survivor and Brotato. It's a horde survival game, in which you have to survive 30 waves of enemies. This game does however a lot of things different, which is refreshing. For one, you cannot move, instead you play a fixed turret and have to shoot down the enemies and their projectiles that come from all directions. The second difference and the main attraction of this game is that you have only four different base weapons. This is really weird in a genre that thrives on having lots of different choices and creating synergies from combining those. Here however, you only have very basic weapons that you know from your typical shooter. The submachine gun is fast firing weapon with low damage. The pistol shoots precise bullets but has a slow firing rate. The shotgun has great damage but fires its bullet in a random spread within a short range, And the bomb fires a single slow moving projectile that explodes on impact or once it reaches max distance. What makes this game so incredibly fun however is that each of those weapons can be combined in any way. Technically your turret has three weapons but these three weapons have each four slots which can be fit with any of the four base guns. Combining two guns creates a new type depending on what you used and because of this, the game offers 69 different combinations of weapons that you can use. Nice! Here are a few examples. Two pistols create a sniping rifle, which has even better precision, deals a good amount of damage but still fires very slowly. However, if you use a pistol with a submachien gun, you get the scout rifle which combines the fast firing rate of the submachine gun with the precision and damage of the pistol. If you add the shotgun into the mix, you get the bouncing ball, a big, fast moving bullet that bounces off from enemies and the edge of the screen. Additionally, each weapon also has slots for three upgrades. These upgrades are randomized and can only apply to weapons that contain at least one base weapon with the same color of the upgrade. These upgrades tweak the stats of weapons and either allow you to lean more heavily into their strengths or remove some of the weaknesses. Some upgrade straight up change the functionality of your weapon, like the sticky upgrade which laves bullets fired from your gun stay on the screen for some time, allowing you to create barriers. Your turret itself also has room for three upgrades, these can either affect all your weapons or simply improve your overall ability. Beating waves gives you research, which you can use between runs to unlock new turrets, perks or simply improve your stats (meta progression). But you also unlock more turrets and perks as you finish certain challenges during your run, like beating the game for the first time. The enemies in this game also are made up of the same four types that you use, although they affect them differentely. The pistol enemies will move until they are close enough and then start shooting. The submachine gun enemies will rush you down and try to ram you. The shotgun enemies usually circle around you and slowly close the distance. The bomb enemies are bigger and have more health. These base types can be combined too and they have all kinds of different behaviours and attacks. It's really fun how much value the dev creates out of those four patterns. Enemies evolve too, every five waves you are forced to choose between two upgrades, which will be aplied to all future waves. Once you have beaten the main mode for the first time, you unlock depth mode, which makes the game overall harder. There are currently five depths. But the game also provides alternate game modes for people that got bored from the main gameplay loop. Also, the different turrets in this game are great. There is a turret for example which cannot aim and instead spins endlessy around, firing shots in all directions.. Stuff like this creates so much replayability and doesn't feel like you play the same type of game all the time. It also gives the player a reason to try out more strategies instead of relying on the same type of thing over and over. And lastly I want to mention that the dev is an absolute beast! Since the game came out, the dev has constantly pushing out new updates. Not only bug fixes or small balancing changes but really big content updates that put other developers to shame. The last update introduced a classic SHMUP mode, so that players can finally move around. Devs like this are a shining example for the industry and honestly, I think the game undersells its own value.

I bought the game the day before it went 50% off. The dev found out and replied with vine boom sound effect. Based. (P.S - There's literally a free demo that shows you how amazing the game is. definitely worth it)

Good Game, Simple but with a lot of Content. Genome Guardian gameplay is easy enough to understand, but whenever you get a handle on what the game is about, a new perk, turret, or gamemode gets introduced to radically change how you approach the game. I've been playing for nearly 7 hours now, and I still haven't unlocked a fraction of the content in this game yet.

Really great and inventive rogue-like. It's based off of evolution and DNA, which is a really fun and unique twist. You build weapons out of C's T's G's and A's just like in DNA, giving 69 unique combinations of weapons. Your enemies evolve alongside you throughout the runs, which is also fun. So you're updating yourself while choosing the lesser of two evils (or maybe trying to push the enemies into a certain style). The Dev has already added new content since launch, which is pretty great. And it's not like the game doesn't feel finished. It definitely is 100% ready to play; any new content is just icing on the cake.
