This game is pretty great if you're into management games. It's really got everything you could want in an auto-company-management-sim. I'm absolutely this games core demographic, and I've bounced off it's peers covering this industry, but this one keeps me coming back. I can tell this game was a labor of love. And yes, the menu system is retro, but navigating is simple and becomes second nature very quickly. For me the menus even a bit nostalgic. What's more amazing is Eric. I've peeked around on reddit and the forums and he is incredibly transparent and active in communicating with the community around his game and tycoon/sim games in general. For a game he started making over a decade ago he's still very active and supporting it today while working on his next project. 10/10. This guy deserves your money, and the game is absolutely worth every penny.

One of the best spreadsheet simulators in the game industry, played it for quite a lot of hours now and I'm still enjoying every single bit of it. Looking forward for further improvements to this already good game, I'll highly recommend it.

I've had this game for a long time and seem to dabble at playing it occasionally. Its not because I don't like the game, as I find this to be one of the better management simulations available. The truth is that it is a bit of what I'd call a spreadsheet game where there isn't a lot of dynamic movement or action. However, for those who enjoy a game that forces them to think and plan, this is a well thought out and detailed simulation that puts you in charge of a automobile manufacturing company. For me that makes it a perfect game to while away an hour or two, even when I know a full game takes many more.

My first experience of Gear City. Its 1930, I have opened a factory and a branch in London. I have 6 million dollars in the bank. I check out the competition and whats happening in 1930's London. Seems Coupes are popular and getting more popular so I get my RnD team on designing a chassis, engine and a gearbox. Almost a year passes with me haemorrhaging money as I pay these guys to slave away behind drawing boards. Eventually they get back to me with some results. We slap it all together and design a basic little coupe, The Rolston Vant Sorre. We start producing cars and shipping them out to 1930's car dealerships around London. To my surprise they sell. A bit more market research later I work out Coupes with a 2 + 2 seat configuration seem the flavour of the month, so we release the Rolston Vant Roman. Exactly the same car but the seats are different. They sell well. We open a branch in Birmingham, Brummies like them too. Im making money. Sat at my desk drinking brandy and smoking a fat cigar becasue its 1935 and nobody gives a f+*k, I pick up a magazine, I read a review of the Roman. Some guy called James Clerkson says the interior is uncomfortable, but otherwise a solid coupe. I slam the magazine back down and call in RnD. I tell them to design a Deluxe version of the Roman with luxury interior. Our factory starts churning out Rolston Vant Roman Deluxe models. A few months later Im reading a review, James Clerkson is gushing about the high quality and luxury of the new deluxe model. Screw you James Clerkson. I check out liquid assets, although we are making money we are still down on the 6 million I started with as we havent yet cleared our setup costs. Worse still, sales of the Sorre, Roman and Roman deluxe are dwindling. Our cars are losing popularity as better models are now being offered by the competition. I call in Rnd and Im like "WTF RnD?" They tell me weve been wasting all our money on brandy, cigars and fast women and havent invested any in researching and designing new parts. I throw money at the problem but its not enough, we are too far behind. Sales are now trickling off to nothing. Ive made a loss on the 6 million that I started with. I vow to sell the last few Rolstan Vants from the storage sheds and call it day. Then... WW2 breaks out, I think this cant be good, our factories shut down. But wait... I quickly reopen them offering to manufacture munitions instead of cars, for the next 6 years my one factory in London churns out bullets and bombs so we can take the fight to Jerry. I make millions and after the war ends I sell the business, buy a country estate and retire with brandy and cigars. Eventually my grand country house falls into disrepair as the last of my fortune dries up. One by one my house staff disappear, tempted by the alure of a now bloated welfare state. Sat on the north terrace I watch sullenly from my wheelchair as Rolston Hall and what is left of the British Empire crumbles around me. I die, and my grandson Rupert is bullied by the National Trust into selling the estate. My once fine walled garden is now open to the filthy general public whose snotty children ruin my once fine lawns. Every Christmas they come to look at the Christmas lights and buy pencils, overpriced wooden jigsaw puzzles and other middle class tat from the souvenir shop.

Quickly tried the Demo. Less than 24 hrs later I bought it. I am on my 10th attempt in normal mode. There is so much here to deal with that you simply have to play it dumbed down and then dig deeper as you learn; Layers. Similar to Rule the Waves in that you have almost 100% design control over every spec. (no, you do not have to know the history or the actual mechanics of the cars but it will help. Comes off as an idler.... I don't see it as such since you are required to interact at so many levels. Micromanagement can definitely be self-defeating as in the case of trying to cut prices and production at times can easily increase cost per unit resulting in further losses. It becomes clear that this is not a game with a simple formula for success... even if you think you have found it. Try the demo...It was decent enough to make a decision.
