Incredible roguelike. Unfortunately, balance of classes and items is really uneven. After unlocking some artifacts and trying them out you'll question it's existence in the item's pool. Artifact ban is coming soon I hope. Soundtrack is layered depending on the actions on the current map, which feels immensely powerful once the bass drops. Visuals are simple, yet mesmerizing. More content and balancing is required, but it's a good start.

Let's start with the most obvious and the most talked about: this game is a lot like Risk of Rain 2. Some people are really upset about it being similar, for some reason, however my counter argument: Rogue is a game, too, that has countless imitations that are very well celebrated, and is the namesake for the roguelike genre. Doom has hundreds of derivatives. Soulslike is a genre now, too. Still really baffled at some of the commentary surrounding the similarities to ROR2 when some of the most popular and successful games are either rips themselves or the origin point for entire genres. You can definitely talk about the similarities, but some people have made it a point to shit all over this game because of the similarities and i think that's just twitter brain. I think gatekeeper does enough of its own to feel worthwhile, it's nice to take that familiar feel and do something of your own with it and I respect the devs for not having an outright clone, but rather a game that takes deep inspiration of. You battle through stages or an arena mode (simulacrum from ROR2), you obtain items that augment gameplay, and you can pick from a cast of character each with wildly different gameplay approaches. Same basic formula. The coop feels great, you can revive downed teammates, they still maintain XP parity (so they aren't behind) and items are instanced. The difficulty scales but doesn't seem to scale ridiculously, mostly just that the objectives are in higher quantities. My biggest gripe is sometimes the damage can be really bursty, there's literally an achievement for dying from full HP in less than 2 seconds. Honestly, this can feel like shit sometimes, but then I've also had God runs that lasted over an hour. My second biggest gripe is getting stuck on something and dying. You can get stuck on an enemy as they are spawning but before you can actually see the spawn animation start, so for a small bit it actually looks like you're caught on nothing. Frustrating, but once you know what's happen it seems more like a quirk of software dev than anything.

Its a really fun fast paced twin stick roguelike, although I enjoyed it more before the Oct 2024 patch. The difficulty now is insane, even on easy. As a software engineer myself, I understand how much hard work it is to create software so Im not going to bash the devs, but please rebalance it in future patches to cater to an array of different gamers and gamer skills, not all like to play at insanely hard difficulties. ALso backtracking to grab items is not fun especially if you're trying to do speedruns. Overall I recommend it, but please rework the balancing issues pre Oct 2024 patch

This game has been one of the best purchases I have made in a while. I got it for the 4 player coop and haven't regretted it. The developers are responsive to Bugs and feedback while also developing the game to their designed plan. The art work and characters are all unique with different play styles. The game has 2 game modes arena and normal. Arena, you fight through waves of enemies on a single life. Normal mode you fight through the 4 different planets in hope o escaping or continuing onto harder waves. The amount of time you can progress through the planets is near infinite. I recommend this game if you enjoy rogue-likes.

Amazing game. Had a lot of fun with friends playing it. We played the normal mode where you travel from planet to planet where every enviroment is different and Arena mode where you are in the same Arena and have to defeat wave after wave of enemies. We are hardcore roguelike players so on our first run Arena we unlocked like almost 10 achievements already. We tested the limits (caps) of items and stats. So we realized there is a CDR cap (cooldown reduction) its at 40% max CDR, but thats understandable since a lot of roguelikes dont even over CDR stats as reward when leveling up and the other cap we found is stacks for your right click ability, you can have max 3 of that, wich i dont understand, at the end its the players choice if he wants to break the game at a 2 hour run, since its a roguelike that decision to cap the stacks for right click skill was questionable. So far all the other caps we encountered where just minor, like the items wich add an extra 5% chance per item stack but the dmg stays same, so its understandable when it reaches 100% the game says NO YOU CANT STACK ANYMORE IT IS 100%.....so far the game is in my eyes too restrictive and that takes the fun out of it. My suggestion is to totally remove the item caps, at the end its the players choice what items he wants to stack and wich items not. If i want 30 right click stacks, gimme that since its fun to spam right click, if i want 1000 hp/s gimme that, since its fun to stay afk and see enemies doing less dmg than your regen. Instead of balancing items and stacks, you should balance the enemies. All I can say is, great game but there is a risk of rain....
