I remember following this game ever since the 2010's at ModDB. Though it may have a- interesting name. It scratches that itch that drew me to Half-Life & Half-Life 2. The game does have some bugs (Including an few instances where it corrupted the Quick Save and Auto Save file- thus having to start a new game at the beginning of the chapter) I really enjoyed this game. Give it a shot if you want to have that nostalgic feeling of playing Half-Life 2 for the first time

A Masterpiece of Atmosphere and Storytelling G String is, simply put, a masterpiece. From the first moments, it grips you with a world that feels real, heavy, and disturbingly close to our own. Itā€™s not just an homage to classic FPS games; in some ways, it goes further, taking inspiration from Half-Life, Doom 3, and F.E.A.R., but adding its own unique layers. The atmosphere is unmatched, drawing you into an oppressive dystopia that feels lived-in and haunting. The game excels at environmental storytelling, with intricate details that make exploration as engaging as the action itself. You are encouraged to piece together its bleak narrative through scattered scraps, visuals, and an art style that truly sticks with you, creating an experience that feels both immersive and thought-provoking. The main character, a young woman in this futuristic world, embodies a desperate fight for survival. Even as a silent protagonist, you feel deeply connected to her struggle, and the game uses subtle cuesā€”such as her reactions and the way she navigates environmentsā€”to make her emotional journey palpable. This silent strength allows players to immerse themselves fully in her experiences, grasping at understanding in a world that often feels incomprehensible. The many factions throughout the game add layers of complexity, shaping the protagonistā€™s journey in meaningful ways. Each faction has distinct motivations, and their rivalries create a precarious balance of power, making the world feel alive and fraught with tension. You can sense the weight of these groups through environmental storytelling, which enriches the immersive experience and makes every encounter feel significant. Visually, G String is a love letter to the mid-2000s FPS aesthetic. I love the brown and grey aesthetic that defined many classic games from that era, including F.E.A.R., Call of Duty: World at War, Resident Evil 4, and Timeshift. This color palette evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the late sixth generation to early seventh generation of gaming. The polygonal look gives the world a rough, unpolished charm that feels both nostalgic and unique. This choice enhances the gameā€™s atmosphere, immersing you in a dense, intricate environment that captures the essence of a gritty, dystopian future, evoking the same sense of wonder and nostalgia that defined a golden era of gaming. Whatā€™s even more astonishing is that G String was created by a single developer. This solo effort shines through in the gameā€™s distinctive style and storytelling approach, demonstrating a level of dedication and passion that is evident in every detail. From the haunting environments to the layered narrative, the developer's personal touch creates an experience that feels intimate and meticulously crafted, something that few large studio games can achieve. Since its release in 2020, G String has flown under the radar compared to more mainstream titles like The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077, which garnered immense popularity despite disappointing many fans with their focus on profitability over genuine storytelling. In contrast, G String represents a labor of love that didn't receive the attention it deserves, simply because it isnā€™t a mainstream game. Itā€™s upsetting to see such a dedicated project overlooked in favor of titles that, while high-profile, often prioritize commercial success over player satisfaction. In conclusion, G String is shaping up to be a remarkable achievement. While I havenā€™t finished the game yet, Iā€™ve found that there are moments when platforming can feel challenging or lengthy. However, this only adds to the experience, much like facing any other obstacle or enemy. Each hurdle becomes part of the protagonist's struggle, contributing to the weighty tension that defines this world. For anyone who appreciates FPS games with depth, artful level design, and a dystopian atmosphere that pulls you in, G String is an unforgettable journey and deserves a 10/10 rating.

You're buying this game for the grungy, post-apocalyptic, dystopian up to 11, cyberpunk, urban spelunking atmosphere which is a 10 out of 10. For the price asked, it's totally worth it.

The level design, ngl, is pretty outdated. The smallest, half-covered hole to the rest of a level, mine and toxic water right around turns, platforming on centimeter-wide bars... Feels like a CS platforming challenge. However, the beautiful cinematic sequences made up for it. The environment is also full of details. Incredibly, a lot of the places and sequences are grander in scale than hl2. The campaign is decently long. (10 hrs in and not close yet) Made by someone perhaps a bit too familiar with source, with a lot of love. Unbelievable work to be done by one person! Glad I found it.
