Full Ace Tennis Simulator turns out a name well earned. It's ultimately a tennis simulator that is full ace in its execution, capturing the essence of what is a simple yet beautiful game. Tennis is a genre featured from the very beginning of video games, and has seen many a title come and go. I got my start in Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast, and played its successor as well. I recently got back to it, and after a while, started to seek newer titles which quench that thirst of controller-based gameplay with a more modern touch, and that's where I found Full Ace. It costs 23€ (at least where I am), and the price isn't cheap. It's not expensive, but it's not one of those "take a flyer for a fiver and see if you get an hour out of it" things. However, as someone who doesn't exactly live a lavish lifestyle, it's well worth the investment. If you have any love for tennis whatsoever, or have played older titles and want to see what tennis games feel like in 2024, this is absolutely for you. Same if you enjoy a challenging yet rewarding gameplay with no strings attached, where YOU and YOUR skill can truly be the one factor determining the outcome. It's a refreshing change from mainstream sports games where you're left wondering where pure gameplay was left in the chase for plastic, glitter, and revenues fueled by fancy licenses and predatory microtransactions. I wish there was just a touch more glitter in some regards, and being able to choose a backstory, perhaps have some more features in career mode like training and such would be helpful. Also, some sort of finances system; as a player based in Finland, travel costs would very much be a factor in what tournaments I choose to attend, and I'd have a hard time training for grass or clay in winter months, much more so than someone based in a more favourable climate. Gear is a similar issue, though the fact that you don't get attribute bonuses based off that is probably a good thing, given how it opens door to microtransactions and ultimately is something a bit overdone by many games, leaving you wondering how much your success has to do with your skills vs. obtaining equipment. Still... If you want to play tennis on your PC and have a controller, this is it. Look no further. It comes with an added bonus of supporting an indie developer that has shown true labour of love, is passionate about their craft, and constantly aims to improve the game even further. It's not without its flaws, but the good far outweigh the bad in this case, and I place heavy trust in that the bad will be improved in near future. Pros - Excellent gameplay - Fluid and responsive, natural controls - Realistic no-nonsense graphics - (WITH FAMOD) Four digits of real-life opponents with realistic traits and styles, some fully animated - Small but helpful community Cons - Rather basic and unintuitive character creation - Certain lack of immersion in career mode Rating 8+/10

Starting to win some matches now. Like a few reviews have said, you have to keep at it and don't give up. No dressed up distractions, just pure tennis. Physics are spot on. I tried the demo of Tennis Elbow 14 (found on the internet) before I bought either. That one has a few more shots you need to hit multiple buttons for, which seemed harder for me being an aging gamer. It was good, especially being able to play doubles on. I can't imagine playing either with keyboard controls. Yow. You'll need a controller. Full Ace is better with the FA1.6 mod installed which was easy to find. To start I had to go back to the tutorial for a couple of the lessons. Tutorial is well done. Also adjust to easy ball first and have kept my player at 50% skills. Now hitting normal ball and serving good. Serving was tough to get the hang of but I did it by starting to concentrate on getting the second serve in to get the ball in play. Then I improved. To me the calendar for the career with the tournaments is a little confusing but I'm starting to see how it works. I think it could be laid out better.... Bought it on sale and it's worth the asking price. Thank you to the developers for offering this game. Nice job.
