Jan. 2026
Ya know, I'm a huge fan of fractals. I make fractal art, and I could mess with the things all day. So when I saw a game themed on that, of course I had to pick it up. I had no idea what I was getting into, as the ultra-bizarre screenshots and video on the page here dont do this justice at all. But what I found was something amazing. This game drops you into an infinitely recursive world, and presents you with the core mechanic: floaty rings that either allow you to grow or shrink one "level", depending on the color. You'll start in a region called the Ying World, a vast zone filled with Stuff. All sorts of things to do and find, you can spend a lot of time here. Once you're powerful enough to leave, you'll activate multiple red "grow" rings on your way out, and you'll find that this entire enormous space is just the bulb on a small flower, and you'll find other Ying Flowers in various places. That new space seems enormous? Nah. It's just a little block in an even bigger space. And so on. Shrinking can reveal tons of stuff too. That solid block over there? If you shrink down near it, you may find it full of intricate detail, made of who knows what. Shrink further and you might find even more. Entire giant dungeons may be found in just one tiny little thing. One of the most impressive things is how the game finds endless ways to work with this core mechanic. Shrinking down in the Ying World is easy. In the Tau Caves, another area you'll frequent, shrinking down is harder, as the rings are contained in "shrink boxes", mini dungeons that need to be fought through to shrink one level. The base mechanic never changes... green rings make you smaller... but the game can apply those in a million creative ways. However, this can be a bit overwhelming at times. Each new weird place you find can be it's own type of bizarre. Fortunately, the game explains things to you in extreme details through text boxes that are just everywhere. Not sure what that weird tube over there does? Chances are there's a text box near or in it that'll tell you all about it. The names of the places can help with this too. Many things are named after their function, or the upgrades within. For instance, one of the earliest you'll run into is a Small Cannon Pyramid, a maze with upgrades for your cannon weapon at the end of it. A Health Tower is a funky dungeon with a blob of health upgrades at the top. However, because there is SO MUCH of everything, it can all still be very overwhelming. So much info to parse as you go, and so much complexity in each different thing. I found myself taking frequent screenshots of info boxes so I could refer to them later. Be aware that this is a VERY grindy game. Like I've lost track of how many of those pyramids I've done. Most upgrades have many places they can be found in, some having more in one spot than others, but often being harder to get through or just harder to find. This means though that there are many ways to get things done... you can find your favorites and focus on them. I will say, when you find a particularly big trove, like a huge wall of 30 homing missile upgrades at the end of a dangerous dungeon, it is just so darned satisfying. You've got a lot of weapons too, each having 2 fire modes that do different things. Playstyle does matter here. Like I found myself not using the laser's freeze shot very often, but you might find that you use it all the time. On the other hand, I absolutely will fight a simple Rat by shoving an entire nuke up its nose. Each weapon is interesting and there are uses for all of them. Once they're powered up a bit, anyway. That rocket aint gonna be good for much early on. But once you find some upgrades, it starts to have plenty of good uses. Enemies, oddly, mostly dont move. They float there and just hit you. Yet still, you'll learn to recognize many types. Vulcans and their heavy hit but slow buildup, or Lampreys that blow your face off but tend to guard good stuff. Or those horrible, horrible billiard balls. You learn to fear those the moment one shows up the first time. Also everything makes just the strangest sounds... The only real criticism I have for the game is that it has an overreliance on mazes. Seriously they are EVERYWHERE. One particular location is a maze made of mazes, which is every bit as much of a headache as it sounds. Certain mazes can be really cool. The one in the Toronto City for instance has all sorts of things in it. But many mazes are just... bland. You'll find Small Black Flowers early on that contain a particular maze template, which is quite long and doesnt have much going on in it, and you're gonna see more of that exact type of maze in many places. If they could be made more varied, this game would be even better. Also there is a LOT of content here. I cant overstate that. Just so... so... SO much. And so many secrets. This has quickly become one of my favorite things on Steam here, and I just dont tire of it. It's not for everyone, certainly. But if it's the sort of thing that floats your boat, you're gonna freaking love this. Overwhelmingly positive reviews for very good reason. Also I just love the aesthetic of the whole thing.

This game gets me. If I see a dungeon inside of speck of air on a leaf that was on the border of a cactus that was lodged in the crevice of a rock in a pyramid maze I found on a floating island after I looked too hard at a piece of dust on my computer desk, I investigate further.
