A lot of fun, met a lot of cool people through playing this game. The game loop itself gets a tad bit repetitive over time but I feel like it takes A WHILE to get there. Devs did some nice work revamping the puzzles and banishes. Only wished they made the way you engaged the mejai during banish a bit more unique to each mejai. Overall a unique experience that has quite a few different roles to take on during your playthroughs.

A bit like Phasmophobia but, for me, more enjoyable with a better progression system.

Phasmophobia and its many offspring have been the gift that keeps on giving for a long time now, and this is the latest of them to join the ranks of "games that left Early Access before Phasmophobia despite initially releasing after it". The usual ghost identification gameplay is here, with the tools being pretty much exactly what you'd expect, but it's slightly downplayed in favor of a heavier focus on exploring the tombs, solving puzzles, and avoiding all sorts of death traps and enemies. You keep your tools as a static loadout that you bring into every tomb instead of losing them on death, and spend the money you earn on upgrading them instead. In general it's just a much more active game than its cousins, which helps a lot in distinguishing it from just feeling like another copycat. My only half-complaint is that the game is pretty easy, even on the hardest difficulty and biggest map size, and frankly it just isn't all that scary as a result. Neither of these are damning on their own, because obviously the game being fun is more important (and it is!), but I do think that it impacts the longevity of the game. The structure of the game heavily incentivizes exploring the tomb while trying to identify its spirit, because correctly identifying the spirit is required to actually enter the inner chamber and summon the spirit to banish it -- but what that means is that by the time the spirit even appears, it's highly likely that you'll have already picked up everything you need to banish it between you and your friends, and in the case of my group of 3 we very commonly finished maps without all 3 of us even seeing the spirit in person. Most rounds end up being 15 minutes of buildup for 1 minute or less of actual time spent with the ghost at the very end, and I can't help but feel like the game could direly use a mode that lets the spirit do occasional "hunts" earlier or something since the spirits themselves have fairly creative abilities that are wasted by how rarely they show up. It is a bit unfair to compare them directly, because at $7 this game is currently half the price of games like Phasmo or Ghost Exorcism Inc, and that's easily worth the 15 hours my group got out of it. But I feel like it's worth saying, because the problem isn't an actual lack of content; if anything, between the ghosts, the side enemies, the puzzles, and the traps, this game probably has more content than any of the other games in this subgenre, so don't take any of this as a heavy critique. It just lacks the vagueness that the others have, and as a result it becomes routine much faster. I think people who get frustrated with Phasmophobia for being slow and confusing will probably see this as a positive, and maybe even like it more as a result, but as someone who has over 40 hours in Phasmo and still doesn't completely know how some of its mechanics work on normal difficulty I almost felt a little bit bad for the ghosts in this whenever my group of three chronic tutorial skippers stormed in on Brutal/Large and cleaned out a new tomb and new spirit on our first try. In Phasmophobia the ghosts feel genuinely terrifying even in a group, because the vagueness of their mechanics and lack of funds means it takes a long time for you to feel confident that you can survive a hunt. In this game, my friends almost immediately skipped straight to the "verbally berating the ghost" stage. But that's not necessarily a bad thing -- it's just a different type of fun than I went in expecting.

Forewarned is, to this day, my favorite "Phasmophobia" clone out. I'd even argue that the game is not even a clone and more of a standalone game of itself but I can see why people compare this to Phasmophobia as it has similar gameplay of "Finding Evidences and identify the ghost..." except that's all it really is similar in, and Forewarned gives you even much more stuff to tackle on. Take Phasmophobia's Gameplay loop. You go in with some equipment that are meant to find the ghost's room. Find it, put all equipment there, go back to the van, take more equipment, put it there, and set it up and....... wait until the ghost does something. This can be boring as if you are unlucky you might an inactive ghost and you will get bored. Forewarned doesn't suffer from this case. There are no favorite rooms for the Mejai in this game. The Mejai will follow you and drop evidences as you explore. This is a huge plus as it means you can just go ahead and do ANYTHING. Whether it be solving puzzles, searching for gold and artifacts; The Mejai will just follow you and drop an evidence here and there while you are doing all of that without even staying in one room for several minutes. You will often identify the Mejai before you even get to explore the whole tomb. Oh yeah, did I mention you get to do stuff in the Tomb rather than take equipment and put it in one spot until something happens? Just take the necessary equipment for lighting like a Flashlight or a Torch and some equipment required to know evidences such as the Geiger Counter or The Compass and go ahead and explore it all. You can set the size of the tomb as well, whichever you like, I go for Large maps because I get maximum value and loot out of it PLUS I don't have to wait for evidences to happen in Small and sometimes Medium sized map (You'd explore them fully before you'd get to know the Mejai, that's why I play on Large maps). In every tomb you will find golds scattered around. Rare artifacts in some puzzle rooms to be solved waiting for you, and there are traps and hazards in the tomb... and it's all randomly generated which means it's replayable. Now, the fun part of exploring and the reason why you were even sent there in the first place... The Relic. The Relic is the main objective of Forewarned and it is heavily guarded by a Mejai in its room somewhere located in the Tomb. Usually it's gonna be near the entrance. The room is locked behind a gate in which there are seven buttons that has written names in Ancient Egyptian language. Each of the buttons represent a different Mejai and this is where gathering evidences part of the game comes from. You need to know which Mejai it is in order to get the relic locked in there. After gathering evidences and know which Mejai it is, simply choose the button that has their name and open it! Should be simple in there, just get the relic from that ancient mummy and get out... Luckily, the entrance is nearby so it should be easy... right? Enter Phase two of the Tomb. The Mejai's Physical Manfestation. This is where the game goes out full murder on you. By picking up the relic, you are locked inside until you find a blue colored lever that opens the tomb's entrance... and its location is randomized in the tomb. You have to re-explore the tomb once again to find the lever but this time there is a looming danger. The Mejai is going to be around the tomb searching for you (or know where you are already, just avoid triggering them) trying to kill you. The game got you covered here if you do not know the Mejai's mechanic as the tablet you have gives you information about each Mejai and their weaknesses or how to counter them. Once you get the blue lever, just GTFO of the tomb with the relic and congratulations... you have successfully retrieved the relic. (Unless you are doing a whole other puzzle to banish the Mejai but that's a whole other story for you to find out...). I'll put this here real quick: The game HEAVILY punishes you for dying. If you have collected a thousands of golds and some artifacts, but died at the end with the Mejai, you will get ZERO compensation to it as if you haven't played it. (No longer the case since the Final Reckoning update, instead of losing everything, you will lose a percentage amount of it ---depends on difficulty--- which is better than losing everything but still a hefty loss). It's rough and you should get used to the game in smaller sized map first, get better equipment, then go on and take the risks of playing larger maps. Also, You do not lose your equipment if you die and do not have to repurchase them which is great as dying in this game can happen more often than you think and they already punishes you for dying in the first place. If you are fond of Phasmophobia but would like a different playstyle or gameplay or bored of just waiting around and want actions and jumpscares. I recommend this game and also to the people who haven't even played Phasmophobia. Honestly, this game imo is just completely different that it deserves it, and the devs taking care and giving love out to this game also made me love it even further. I was appalled at how much the devs care for their game. Get this game... you won't regret it...

Firstly, a huge congratulations to the developers for their 1.0 launch! This game from top to bottom has been the most consistently gratifying co-op horror experiences I've had the pleasure of playing. The parallel action between main objectives and side one's, the looming surprises maybe only half the team finds while the other half fight their own battle in another part of the tomb, etc. The ghost hunting genre had so much room to grow and Forewarned grew its wings and soared beyond all expectations. The tension, the foreboding atmosphere, the puzzles, the secrets, the upgrades, the downright longevity and creativity of content provided. Pick this one up, you will surely not regret it!
