This is a great roguelike deck builder! Lots and lots of different cards with interesting abilities. There are lots of interesting decision to make, whether attacking enemies or seeing unknown POI's that may reward you or have other consequences, etc. This is a permanent resident on my Steam Deck. There is so much to find in this game!

Fun-enough deckbuilding game combining Slay the Spire-esque card mechanics with FTL exploration, space theme and pixelated and musical charm. The problem is that it's not as good as either of those in the similar aspects. That's part of the problem with comparing it to the best. For some reason you must start with a 3 card hand your first turn instead of the 5 you get every other turn as a standard. And you start with 0 shields, so if you don't draw any shield cards in your limited hand, you can lose persistent HP from your ship easily in that first turn. This isn't so bad on normal mode, which I was able to clear pretty easily on several ships. However, the first level of hardcore mode immediately cranks the difficulty to 11. In addition, the deck mechanics are counter the way the game is set up. Each turn you reshuffle your deck and draw your cards from the fresh deck. Only removing cards from your deck is prohibitively hard to find and expensive. And you start with 10 cards that are super basic. So you're drawing a limited hand of 5 (or 3) from an ever increasing card pool. As you would expect from this, sometimes the luck favors you and others it abandons you. If they had leaned into the idea of a complete reshuffle and balanced the card removal options better between making your deck tiny and perfect and having tons of cards, that'd be great. It sounds like I didn't enjoy this game, but I really did. The soundtrack and sound effects are fun, fitting, and satisfying. The normal mode was still quite fun to play with each of the moderate selection of ships and their different starting decks. There are fun bonus sectors to find with different enemy styles. And it's a pretty cheap game, so you can't go wrong finding it on sale and easily getting your money's worth if you enjoy the genre. Solid 6.5-7/10

You know, after waffling on this game for years due to all of the negative reviews, I picked it up on sale. I'd been following it for a long time, because it hits a lot of spots for me in terms of gameplay and science fiction setting, but I'd been worried about wasting my time and money. I don't know if I was right back then, but I my experience has been mostly positive since I began playing a few days ago. There's been a few bugs, most notably the one where I ended up getting stuck due to an event screen never bothering to move on after the event, but a quick restart set things right and gave me an even better event that left me in a good spot. I get the distinct feelings, reading the negative reviews, that many of the problems people have with the game have been patched out or through, and the game is in a good place nowadays. I feel like the biggest problem people would have with FTW is with conceptual deck building, but my experience with MTG had prepared me for this well in advance. Look, I'm a little baked and I'm probably rambling, so I'll cut this short. If you've been holding on, waiting for this game to be playable, now is probably the time. I had a great time so far. I even beat the game on my second playthrough. I haven't had the balls to play Hardcore yet, but I'll get there eventually. FTW is fun, if you're into sci-fi and roguelikes and deckbuilding games. Buy it, you probably won't regret it!

Solid deck builder. Absolutely enjoying the “Draft” mode that lets you hand pick your starting deck from a random pool. Really goes a long way in making runs feel less grindy and forces to experiment in fun ways. Wish more deck games had this feature. Unlike STS, you’re not limited to a few paths, but can choose to explore a large map area to and collect cards before moving on, so long as you have fuel. Overall, great artwork/music/vibe and unique take on the genre I find cozy to play.

So, it's a perfectly serviceable Spirelike. You have tons of cards, lots of opportunities for synergies, you encounter shops often, it's easy to figure out a concept for a deck, and when the RNG cooperates you can really pop off with combos in a way that's satisfying and precise. Unfortunately. Despite the FTL aesthetic, and despite the Slay The Spire influences, For The Warp doesn't streamline your path. Instead, it pops you in these big sandboxes with dozens of fights each and lets you find your way to the next sector. Moving takes fuel, so theoretically you'd need to plan your routes and conserve fuel, but there's a common that lets you farm it and every battle gives between 0--3 fuel on victory, so what you're instead incentivized to do is clear out all encounters from every sector. In fact, the game is loosely balanced around this. And this is tedious. Farming out each sector to guarantee a viable run kinda pulls the fun out of the game. And the limited variety of ships and encounters means there isn't exactly a narrative backbone to make up for this. I don't think For The Warp is bad, but it wasn't able to really hold my attention. If if it clicks for you, though, you'll probably put a bunch more hours in. Probably aim for a sale, unless you're really craving a roguelike deckbuilder with an emphasis on combos and grind.
