This game teaches you: 1. Spacing 2. How to utilize your toolset 3. How to recognize an opponents tendencies 4. How to counter an opponents tendencies The game has a training mode that improves your reflexes. When I booted up the game I couldnā€™t get more than a single hit confirm in that training mini game. After 2 hours of doing other mini-games and playing the computer in arcade mode I went back to the hit confirm mini game and immediately hit confirmed the first two rounds in a row. This might be the only fighting game in the world where it is actually fun and useful to play the computer. The arcade mode is so good. It matches you up with various types of player archetypes. ā€œThe Spammerā€, ā€œThe Blockerā€, ā€œThe Whiff Punisherā€. You know how these opponents will behave, and then it is up to you to counter their play style. This game is so useful. I was a tournament UMVC3 player back in 2011 - 2013. If you know anything about UMVC3 then you know itā€™s not a very fundamentals, focused game. My day one character was Zero. A top tier character that has such a strong tool set that I never actually had to learn how to play the game. I never learned neutral (with that character). I just practiced combos and then randomed out in matches out because that characterā€™s toolset is so strong. I think I might have learned more fighting game fundamentals with my 2.5 hours playing Footsies than I learned from my 2 years or so playing UMVC3. And the game is fun. Iā€™m going to go on Discord and see if I can find any matches.

This literally taught me more about fighting games than any other fighting game. Fantastic for learning. Fantastic to play with the people who complain you won because of your combos

It's really hard to rate this game. For what it's trying to be it's basically flawless.

this game gives you a good understanding of how to actually play the proper ground game that most fighting games have. helping you understand the "whiff then punish" gameplay. I don't really know how else to phrase it better than that. It's good.

Fun, cheap, simple. I do have a few gripes about this game, like how there's no block or parry in the command list, so i didn't realize i could do that until I did on accident lol. The online is completely dead, so don't expect to play with randoms. It seems more fun to play a few rounds with friends anyways as they could pick it up easily even if they don't play fighting games. Then there's the arcade where you get demolished by the whiff punisher a million times. The strategy to beat this guy is to slowly back him to the corner and take his blocks until you get a guard break, which is nearly impossible because of it's reactions and near frame perfect spacing. Even with these small problems, it's crazy not to recommend because at only $4 you're definitely getting your moneys worth. Won't be hard to convince a friend to buy it (or buy it for them) so you can play against someone every now and then. For casual players, I imagine this game would serve well as a RPS for split decisions on where to go for lunch lmao
