March 2024

I first played Flower back on the PS4 in 2015. When I saw this game got ported to PC, I was happy beyond words to pay full price and add it to my collection. I wouldn't consider this a game in the traditional sense. It's more of a message about climate change told through the lens of a game for wider audience appeal. And for 2009, it's an exceptional message. My heart and soul goes out to Vincent Diamante for creating one of the best original soundtracks for a video game I've ever heard. This game is a must have for anyone wanting to deck out their collection of games with indie, highly obscure masterpieces. Overall, one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I still look back on my time playing this game back in 2015 fondly, nearly 9 years on now.

Play the PlayStation version! I do recommend this game, but not on Steam. I had several problems with it, which fiddling with the options didn't help. About the game itself though, it is incredible. I first played it a decade ago on PS3 and I still remember it fondly. It's a fairly short game about controlling flower petals, yet it's one of my favorite games. Sometimes the simplest games can leave the biggest impact. If you decide to give it a try, you're in for a nice relaxing time, and a beautiful ending.

A No BS to the point Review - This game originally launched on the PS3 many years ago. It was a masterpiece back then and this PC port continues that in every way. You cannot fault this game for anything other than maybe how short it is, taking a few hours to complete. It is worth the asking price and it is a game that far exceeds the minimal praise & awareness that it receives. This game is an experience like no other. Oh and it is suitable for people of any age or language. A visual & audible delight. Just buy it, You will not regret it! It is also great for calming the mind without being overly stimulating. So if you or your relatives/friends struggle with ADD or ADHD then this is a perfect way to chill out (as best you can at least).

Sometimes you want to play a game where you're the hero and have to save the world. Sometimes you want to play a game where you collect treasure or build a fort and survive while fending off raiders. Sometimes you want to play a farm sim where you romance a character or make a bunch of money for upgrades. And SOMETIMES you just want to play a game where you dream you're a flower petal following the wind and a trail of flowers so you can build a petal army where you become the colors of the wind Pocahontas sings about in the Disney movie. And then you wake up from the dream realizing you went sleep shopping for another plant on your windowsill. Rinse and repeat and you have Flower. Simple is beautiful. On the surface, this might be a simple game with a simple objective: bring life back to a barren land by touching flowers. But if you find meaning in everything, this game is a reflection on how life is fleeting, yet we can make a change by working together towards a bigger goal. And if you are just here for the memes, this game is for people who maybe need to touch grass. Myself included.

Flower was first released in 2009 on PS3, and I never got round to playing it. I'm glad it landed on Steam as it's a gorgeous experience. Relaxing and super beautiful, petals blowing on a breeze, telling a familiar story of nature versus man for an hour or two. A must play.
