I took Rudy Smith, fresh out of Lockerport School for Students with Special Needs, and somehow made him the North Atlantic's top crane and dredge operator. The fishing is so mind-numbingly slow that I started having deep conversations about life with my NPC crew members. Now we're all emotionally entangled, and I think I have found a virtual best friend in this guy. Rudy can even manage two dredge cranes at once during scallop operations—an impressive feat for a lad who once struggled to operate a spoon! 10/10, will never finish the 'catch 5,000 swordfish' achievement, but turning a fishing game into a full-on relationship simulator is more worthwhile than paying a psychologist.

i really love this game. it is a few years old but i find myself coming back to this game quite frequently. pros, crew management is very user friendly which i really like, autopilot is my best friend when navigating the waters. game is well polished with no issues running the game. wide variety of fisheries and ways to fish. awesome graphics. cons, the only con that i really have is one of my favorite things to do in this game is crab fish. i kind of don't like the fact that crab can be seen and detected on the sonar and depth finder, its unrealistic and there should be a separate mechanic of fishing those and the current mechanics make it too easy. when fishing this species should be going by tips from the town bar or just simply putting pots in the water where you think crab are just like what you would see in Deadliest Catch for example. you either catch crab or you dont which would add to the thrill. would be nice to add multiplayer or co-op. the game does get a little boring to play by yourself and would be nice to crew up with a buddy. do i recommend this game. if your into fishing games in general. absolutely.

I think this game is very useful to teach a new player fishing and boating while waiting for new content in Ships at Sea, the new fishing game from the same developer. While Ships at Sea has far superior boat and water physics, Fishing North Atlantic has far more content at the moment, making it an interesting experience for a new comer to this game world. I think both Fishing North Atlantic and Ships at Sea have their purpose.

TL;DR get this game on sale. It's "mostly positive" at time of review for a reason. The good - it gives you a nice dopamine hit to see your catch make that $$, the minigames are reasonably fun. Graphics are nice and gameplay is relaxing. The bad - this is where that line between realism and fun is hard, if you don't want to trawl the ocean for ages with a side scan sonar, it might be best to skip this game. You can buy tips on where fish are, and you can go where other boats fishing, but you spend a lot of time just going from one place to another, setting your nets, and just waiting. In fact doing those two things previously mentioned is a necessity if you want to find any fish. But you better hope the physics don't mess up because if you fast travel via map points there's a good chance you'll find yourself in orbit - and when your ship falls back to earth you incur whatever cost might happen. It's the little things that make this game not worth full price for me - the bugs when they hit, the annoying map around ports so you find yourself slamming into things if you fast travel via map, the game telling me there's no crewmember on board when there is, the markers on the fish during gutting being covered by the models resulting in a poor cut. There really shouldn't have to be a blog post by the developer explaining elements of the game that should be clearly tutorialised in game - that's a sign that somewhere along the road, something got mixed up. This game is fun but it can quickly become frustrating. Buy it at $30 AUD/20 USD or less.
