This game is 2-Dimensional, yet, as I write this in 2024, it's the only pro wrestling game that isn't embarrassing at all. It's not perfect by any stretch, but there's enough here to create/recreate any professional wrestling ever. It would be completely fine if they never made another installment because this one covers a lot. They could let me make/change championship belts, but that's my only complaint. Update 11/28/24: Do NOT sleep on Carlzilla's ModPack. It fills in a lot of the gaps that exist in the core game & DLCs (alt. attires, chain wrestling options for pro wrestling/MMA, entrance themes & the ability to alter any arena). There's a discord that's a roadmap for setting everything up exactly the way you like it.

Fire Pro Wrestling World is a wrestling simulation at its core. If you want something more bombastic with amazing visuals, check out the WWE 2K titles. If you want something more arcadey, there's games like Action Arcade Wrestling and others that will have you covered. FPWW aims to give wrestling fans something a little different though with the ability to have different promotions, rosters, stables and more at your fingertips. It's one of the deepest wrestling sims around. Fire Pro Wrestling World like many of the previous titles offers up one of the deepest create a wrestler modes seen in any wrestling game. From looks to moveset FPWW has got you covered. Even for the arenas themselves! For those who don't want to spend the time though there are several creators who have amassed an army of real and fictional wrestlers over on the FPWW Steam workshop. And they got you covered on just about everything you can imagine. Want to create a classic WCW roster? They got you. Want to create a roster of nothing but Marvel superheroes? They still got you. And the likenesses can be pretty amazing for most of them. The only caveat to workshop downloads is that some wrestlers do require the purchase of some DLC. But tons of them do not, so you should be fine with just the base game. Speaking of the DLC, none of it is really required, but some of it can be fun. Such as the NJPW DLC which adds in a healthy amount of real life at the time New Japan Pro Wrestling stars, with new moves for create a wrestler, new voices, and more. Even a neat little story mode called Fighting Road. There's also a couple of Stardom rosters as DLC to add in a bunch of real life female wrestlers from that company. You also have Fire Promoter which let's you play as well, a promoter. And several other bits of DLC mixed around to buy if you want. None of it is required, and honestly most of it I'd say avoid as it adds very little to the main game outside of CAW stuff. But if you do decide to jump down the DLC rabbit hole, wait for some sales. They do have this handy [url=https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/10221/Fire_Pro_DLC_Bundle/]bundle available, but for everything else it's best to piece meal or just avoid. As for the actual gameplay, FPWW has several modes of match types. You got your normal wrestling, tag teams, cage matches and more. They even have crazy stuff like barbed wire matches and even one where the ring explodes after a certain period! You can also play matches inside of an octagon with MMA rules. And also while not the best simulation, there's even boxing/kickboxing rules which is kind of neat. There's also foreign objects you can grab as well to cause more damage to opponents with things such as chair shots to the head! And yes, you can in fact bust wrestlers open and make them bleed. Wouldn't be a wrestling game without it. You have full control over your wrestler, and perform moves by standing, running, or during grapples. A lot of is based on timing and position of the wrestlers which is pretty easy to get used to. You can throw wrestlers into the turnbuckles, or climb them yourself for diving moves, fight outside the ring, etc... They have most of the aspects of wrestling covered here. You even have a neat trading blows segment at certain times. The wrestling is honestly extremely fun, especially with all the various moves you can go through for each wrestler with the grapple system. Everytime you get in grapple position you can choose a move based on which button you press plus which direction. And moves are tied to 3 buttons, which would equate usually to a weak, medium and strong grapple move. The directions multiply this quite a bit. You also have some devestating moves which when mixed with the opponents own logic rules can cause things like critical damage putting them out of action essentially depending on their own weaknesses. And man is it a delight to crit someone! You also have online multiplayer for anyone interested in that! Fire Pro Wrestling has a deep history having been around for well over 30 years. And FPWW has pretty much claimed the top spot in the series being arguably the best game in the entire series.

Having come from the WWE 2k game series, I think Fire Pro Wrestling World is easily one of the best, and most interesting wrestling games there is. And with Fire Promoter, enabling you to be the GM/Owner of your own wrestling promotion, it just makes it so much funner and more engaging. In addition, the game is literally infinitely customizable and you can literally create any wrestler you can dream up. Especially with the community mods, but even with the vanilla game and DLCs you can pretty much do most anything. And there are tens of thousands of historic, real-life wrestlers you can find in the Workshop in addition to further content to customize the game to your tastes even more. I love the retro look and, at first being skeptacle of the graphics, they really are nice and you can make out emotions on the faces of the wrestlers as they take blows, taunt their opponent or play up to the crowd. There's also some occaional voice acting with some of the big moves and certain moments during matches. This emulates the Japanese style of wrestling which differs from western wrestling in that the crowd expects to be entertained as much as seeing great action in the ring. And the longer the bout, the better. That's not to say you can't have a screaming, stomping crowd in sub-10 minute matches because it's possible to pull off a faster-paced match and still get high match rating. It all depends on the action level and suspense involved. Generally, typical matches the crowd will want to see more than 10 minutes and some playing up to the crowd. Sometimes you can have epic 20-30 minute matches that drives the crowd into a frenzy and near-riot. So, keep in mind that if you manually play your wrestler in matches that means that you're a Worker whether a big star or a bottom card talent. Your job is to make the action good, entertain the crowd and, if intending to get another wrestler over then you need to help do that by helping to make them shine too. In other words, crowds typically frown on squash matches that are lopsided and over within a few quick minutes. As a promoter, and if you leave the action to the cpu vs cpu battles, then you'll have to find good matchups and cards to put together. Early on you got a small company and so it's a bit tougher but can be done once you get the hang of what the crowd expects. Yes, there is female wrestling and intergender (man vs woman) matches and even mixed tag team options. Also, bloodletting and weapons, barb wire matches that are also electrified, land mine matches with both barb wire and explosions when you throw your opponent out of the ring. You can make them bleed, suffer and get as gory as you want with blood strewn about the ring. But remember, if in Promoter mode then it depends on what type promotion you are running as how to stuff like that gets over. Also, maybe tone down the chance for "critical" finishers early on lest you run the risk of putting some of your starting 6 wrestlers on the injured list or even in the hospital which then means you have to hire outside talent at greater expense to you, generally speaking, in order to fill up a full card of matches. I admit I was skeptical but it's true that this game can be equally as fun and entertaining as the WWE 2k series of games. Easy recommendation for all wrestling fans.

The real only contender to WWE 2K series. I have been playing this series since the GBA with FPW 1-2 and PS2 with FPW Returns. It's a bit surreal to remember back in the day sneaking off to play GBA during class breaks or on road trips. Here we are 2 decades later doing the same with FPW World on Steam Deck in between parental duties and work. Tapping in to the Steam Workshop, you can essentially add any wrestler from seemingly any era or promotion within seconds. The level of customization is a bit ridiculous.
