Overall progression and the kind of puzzle mechanics introduced seem very inspired by The Witness. Instead of a grid you find yourself in a free space where you can draw your lines however it physically fits. Which is one of its weaknesses because it's never clear in advance whether or not you fit through a small gap before trying. Or if you're capable of pulling a line and leaving a large enough gap so you can still squeeze through later. Calls for a fair amount of trial and error, but it's still line-drawing puzzles at core. And to my surprise, you eventually do manage to wrap (HAH) your head around how to approach these kind of puzzles, making it generally much more methodical as to how you solve new ones. The difficulty curve was just very steep in the beginning, but leveled out more later on. Very subjective of course, but I found a fairly large gap in the quality of the puzzles. Some requiring a genuinely logical approach, and some being nothing but brute force (Pad, and Constellation Wrapping puzzles can go fuck themselves in particular). And not being able to move while in overhead view is bad design, especially for larger puzzles. Also you can actually run (L3 on controller), wish they would have explained that somewhere. There's a pretty intriguing mystery story, but putting the pieces together just completely depends on yourself. Unless you're thorough with unlocking and reading logs and emails, you probably won't see the whole picture and may be left disappointed or confused. As for the music, I quickly found it to get very repetitive and annoying. Disabled it for the majority of my playthrough. Bottom line is, I felt like I was engaging my brain in a new way, and for that purpose most of the puzzles were enjoyable. But if it's this or The Witness, I recommend starting with the latter. The Witness just has a much higher level of consistent quality, and you'll be able to gauge better if you're even into this type of open puzzle game. Then there's also a whole meta level of puzzles littered throughout the overworld, which you find and solve to unlock certain corrupted logs. Since I managed to get through all of the base puzzles on my own I thought I had a good shot getting all of these done as well. And as it turns out, hell no did I not. Eventually gave up on the last remaining 10 or so and looked up a guide.. and don't regret doing so either. Some solutions are way out there, and few require you to have external specialized knowledge which wasn't included anywhere in-game. So if you don't know certain topics you can start researching on the internet. I don't exactly mind these kind of puzzles, and while I liked the game overall, I didn't like it enough I guess to engage in a sort of ARG lite putting significant hours into researching concepts that are new to me. Didn't really feel like this was designed to be solved by the skill set of a single person, despite there being an achievement for it. Now that's one thing, but what annoyed me was the limited top-down perspective making it sometimes very hard to visualize things, sometimes forcing me to take multiple screenshots and edit them in Paint so I can look at them properly. You can't just try solutions on the spot either: you have to run to specific locations on the ship for that.

A diabolically difficult masterpiece of a game augmented by a gorgeous soundtrack, despite the baffling downer ending.

This is the most mixed I have felt about a game in a long time. I cannot say that the game is bad, it clearly had a ton of time and effort put in. That said I thought it was not a fun experience at all. The puzzle mechanics are the most annoying I've ever played, yet I know the right person would adore them. Within puzzle levels, you control a robot with a wire trailing behind it, and have to loop every post in the level. You cannot go though your wire, meaning that you can't easily retrace ground. That was not fully clear to me when I bought the game, but that is not a style of puzzle I like at all. The story seemed alright, until the end decided to muddle everything in a way I also really don't like. But everything is well designed, I can't say that it's bad just because I really don't like it. I can't fairly rate this one cause it just isn't for me.(And if the play time seems high, I left it idling over a day or two.) Edit: I forgot to mention, this game annihilates Steam Deck battery life, if that matters to you.

Chill puzzle game whose core mechanic is pulling a thread between pylons, with a rich set of rule variations throughout the game. It can get difficult (so far my max is one hour stuck on a single puzzle, damn you pad-3-5), but: - The music is pretty good, and doesn't really get old even if there are basically only a handful of music loops throughout the game. - For the main (square) puzzles: there is no hidden information, everything is plainly visible on the puzzle plane. Each rule variation is brought up progressively and it never gets confusing. - There are frequent rewards in the form of bits of story through monologues and text messages. I liked the tone of it all, but I can imagine some people will have a hard time getting into it.

This game is quite long, making it absolutely worth its money. The puzzles are difficult, but they constantly introduce variety, so it doesn't get boring. There are always new skills you have to apply to what is fundamentally the same puzzle throughout the game. The main story Juniper tells you is so excellently paced within the game, and the game does such a good job of giving so much personality to characters you never get to see. Overall great game, would recommend.
