Thumbs up, but with criticism. Considering that this title has been on the market for nearly three years, I'm puzzled why the game still has some very basic coding / instruction / game rule errors. Examples: 1) Card states that it can be played when a value is over five. However, card can also be played when the value is five. 2) Boss enemy description implies that attacker takes damage whenever it damages boss. Makes sense, except it is only the player that takes damage, even when the boss is damaged by fellow henchmen. 3) Card rules do not clearly state whether discarding is a cost or effect. Right now it is an effect, meaning that you can play a card that requires discarding a card, even if you have no other cards in your hand (compare to M:TG rules). I do not know if this is intentional or bad coding. 4) Finally, I wish the game utilized visual cues to warn the player of enemy abilities. This becomes an issue later in the game where powerful enemies can cycle through different abilities each turn. This can lead to a situation where the player ends up losing the game when they do not realize in time that the target suddenly has a new ability. Otherwise, a good purchase with rogue-lite replay value. Random deck drafting makes every run unique.

It's a decent card game, each run feels pretty unique, and it's fun. The two big pros are that you feel bad ass the whole time, and that knowledge is power. Each run changes a lot because the interactions with the baddies and your cards are a learning process and each run feels better. I'm an achievement whore and there are some fun easy ones and some tougher chase ones. It is well worth the coin spent.

Tl:DR - This is a great deckbuilder game! It's snappy and has a ton of personality. It doesn't quite reach the highs of something like Slay the Spire, but it's very fun! The only things holding it back from being S tier (IMO): 1. There's not a ton of synergy available. Some cards to play well together (ex, Card 1 slam a guy to the ground, card 2 stomp a guy laying on the ground), but I found I was never playing towards a synergy. Because of this, I can tell it won't be as endlessly re-playable as the GOATs where you can accidentally stumble into something exciting. 2. The cards available to you throughout the run pull from the same pool of cards, they aren't unique to your starting deck. For example, you can choose the "slasher" deck and not see any cards that add "bleed" until you're halfway through. It doesn't really make the game worse or anything, but it just makes things feel a bit "same-ey." overall, I'm really enjoying this game and recommend it to any deckbuilder fan! (as a side note, it plays immaculately on the Steam Deck)

It's a very enjoyable deck builder that unfortunately has an extremely high reliance on luck while the titular fights tend to be well done, a bad hand or a bad event (which you're much more likely to come across) can essentially cripple an entire run. Unlike most deck builders which encourage you to interact with events, this game encourages you to... not. The need at higher difficulties to keep your deck lean too has you turning down a majority of rewards. With a full re-balancing of the events I think the game would be a lot more solid. It's still very fun though and quite worth the price as is for both the base game and it's DLC which feels a little better balanced.

"A John Wick-Esque Roguelike Gem" Fights in Tight Spaces brilliantly merges the tactical depth of Into The Breach with the deck-building thrill of Slay the Spire, all wrapped up in a spy setting reminiscent of John Wick. It's the game John Wick Hex aspired to be but couldn't. Pros: -Me favorite concept combining tactical battle, roguelike and deck building -Atmospheric Mechanics: The game mechanics adeptly encapsulate the tense, strategic atmosphere of tight-quarters combat. -Stylish Art: The art style is simple yet incredibly stylish, perfectly fitting the game's theme. -Deck Variability: There's a real depth to the deck-building aspect, with at least five fully playable types, each with its variations. -Challenging Opponents: Enemies are well-crafted, each presenting a unique challenge to overcome. -Addictive Gameplay: It's hard to put down, thanks to its engaging and strategic nature. (but I think about it more like disadvantage, you need to sleep sometimes) Cons: -Very Long Play Cycles: The game suffers from lengthy sessions, discouraging mid to late-game starts. Building perks and decks from scratch every time can extend a full game run to over 4 hours, which is unusually long for a roguelike and tedious. -Sudden Difficulty Spikes: Certain bosses, like the Italian Boss, can catch unprepared players off-guard with sudden difficulty spikes and immunity to movements. While challenging is good, these spikes feel somewhat unheralded and abrupt and if you don't know about it you will die without any chances (and start 4 hours cycle again). -Random Encounters: Some encounters can drastically derail your game by dispensing devastating perks that deals damage to you every turn (and kill you) or creating starting situation on battlefield that force you to instantly lose. But honestly that is very rare ocasions. In summary, Fights in Tight Spaces is an astounding game - an adrenaline-fueled blend of strategy and action that's both innovative and addictively challenging. However, it's so addictive that I had to delete it, which speaks volumes of its compelling nature. The game's cell-based combat in tight quarters is genius, offering a unique and thrilling experience. A must-try for fans of the genre, but be warned of its addictive and time-consuming nature!
