Did you grow up with Stargate, Stargate SG1 or Stargate Atlantis? Did you like Evil Genius, but were put off by Evil Genius 2 and some of its questionable stances on how things work? Well, then, EXOGATE INITIATIVE has you covered! Without getting into spoilers, you explore the galaxy on the behest of the Initiative's founder, Mr. Cobb, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no human has ever stepped foot- wait, that's Star Trek. Regardless, just mind the screaming ferns, the fighting trees, and His Majesty, the Giant Mushroom. No, I will not explain why I say that, you'll learn for yourself. The best mode, if you like narrative choices, is the third option, which gives you a LOT of narrative choices. Are you a streamer on Twitch? Those choices are now able to be voted on by your chat! Be warned, as the internet is a cruel mistress, and 99% of the time, people want to see your world burn, so enter at your own risk. Is this game finished? No, but damn if it isn't getting there. With the developer really listening to their community, this is certainly shaping up to be one of the better games of this type on Steam. I own Evil Genius 2, and this game draws me in far more, especially with a lot of the choices you can get. Certainly, you can get enough research points to research everything, but it's a long way to the top. Good luck, Commander. The Initiative is in your hands now.

TL;DR: you should absolutely play this if you've ever watched a non- Universe episode of Stargate , ever played Evil Genius , or enjoy lighthearted science fiction and low-stress management games. If none of that applies: how does Theme Hospital meets Strange New Worlds sound? Exogate Initiative is a delightful management/4X/base building game that absolutely nails the semi-whimsical, sometimes-serious, but never self-serious tone of its source material. I cannot imagine a more fitting Stargate game, and at this point it's pretty obvious that we'll never get a (decent) one in the franchise. But now that Exogate exists I honestly don't think I'd bother. Just pretend that the game you're playing is called Stargate: Cheyenne Mountain and you'll be pretty much 90% of the way there. Mechanically, it's a simplified Evil Genius -- easy to pick up, easy to play, but with fewer features and extraneous moving parts. Is it a bit janky? Is it a bit overstuffed? Are parts not fully (or at all, see 'Early Access' label) fleshed out? Sure. Is it fun as hell as a chill management game with some really fun bits of interstitial story? Absolutely.

Played version 0.8.7 This is a fun little game. It's a combination base-builder and expansion/exploration game that reminds me thematically (but not in playstyle) of X-Com. The base-building part of the game is similar to Evil Genius. You're hiring staff, paying salaries, digging out rooms and placing furniture. The exploration part of the game is sending teams on missions to other worlds, where they can bring back samples that become science points to level up technology or encounters where you can make key choices for your team. The encounters remind me of Star Trek, although some are darker or sillier than you'd see there. Right now the game is perfectly playable - you can research dozens of technologies, expand your base, explore the galaxy, and deal with an existential crisis - the invading Sqorb drones. That being said, the devs are still working on two more updates that are supposed to add other factions to the game, which sounds like a good feature for the mid- to late-game. The graphics in the game are all right, but faces are especially old school and a bit disappointing. The game seems to run well even on slower machines, although I've had it freeze when I played for many hours in a day. There's some balance issues - right now it's a little too easy to make some mistakes early on that can make it possible to get into a spiral of losing battles against Sqorbs. Once you figure out how to avoid that, the game is a little TOO easy. Which isn't bad - I find the base building and exploration angles of the game to both be relaxing once you've got them going. Side note: The number of hours I have with the game is a little misleading. First of all, my eight-year-old son has decided it's his favourite game. He started by watching me play, then moved on to going through my base and poking around, then went on to missions, and then I came back to find he'd defeated the Sqorbs once and for all. He's awful at managing money, but otherwise finds the game to be fun. The other big time sink in the game is the event editor. You can make your own away missions and add them to the Workshop to be downloaded, which is neat - but you do so within the game, so the hours you spend making missions gets added to your playtime.

Ok i have several hours in. I like the game that said there are some MAJOR bugs and not the good kind either. Exosuits dont get picked up they just stay there and have to be dismantled to be turned back into ores then they pick up the ores thats a huge /facepalm. I want to see where they keep going with this so its a yes.

Ok so im about 9 hours into the game when reviewing. To me when Splattercat 1st showed me this game i wanted to be hooked. I'd however brought many early access games and never bothered to play after initial play.. this i decided to wait a few (6 months?) on. and well my review. I can see where this game is getting it's love.. obviously stargate meets evil genius. However from there everything just gets very sketchy. The away missions give you some small sense of adventure i guess however once it's completed you cant do much else. Oh but... yea fine you can establish missions if you have the operations whirly thingie to do it. but then your just getting samples which in turn offer a think u can add to a patent (your income) and grant research points which you can use to unlock (a pretty limited tech tree) There's mining as well however just a case of select 3 engineers and after 10 days here's some rocks u can sell to boost your income. Ultimately as things are i really feel it needs more. The continuous flood of teams going off planet to scrape up whatever plants or whatever then can find to planet names that mean nothing to me,.. (seriously after the initial survey they have no description update, just xy-123 or whatever. There's nothing in the description. hek there's no description saying "you found this here bla bla, perhaps we should send whatever units to investigate? I Don't recall the team size so i can't argue too much however i do feel in it's current form it's very much a surface deep sort of game. What I'd love would to see some of the silly humour that the original evil genius had and bring it into this game. from scenes in the labratory with plants and specimins infecting scientists or trying to kill them, and having alerts to call in the mercs to deal with potential threats to having silly procedures for curing people in the med bay.. shocked pills? nonsense.. few slaps around the face and a drill sergeant down in your face is what you need! I'm hoping there's a lot more that we just haven't seen yet. I guess this is my sort of game i just want to have a good reason to want to play the game when it reaches 1,0 That said i enjoy unsupported games, currently playing through sheltered 2 which i'm really enjoying. However dont get any ideas yet dev.. not until you add workshop support. On the plus the interface is good, i havent got a clue what most of the staff bubble icons mean.. some make sense, others  The camera is great, no jerkyness nonsense, even with a large amount of assets and peeps on screen. always buttery smooth.. (not kept in fridge/freezer) one thing i enjoy / it's possible to cause crashes however you kind of know what your doing to cause so avoidable. Yea i recommend this, it's my cuppa tea.. i just am looking forward to a good cuppa tea.
