That game really took me by surprise. It's genuinely good. Hard as heck, sure, well it's a roguelike after all so it can come down to luck every once in a while (I've seen a couple comment about the third boss, yeah, it's difficult, abusing sleep/freeze/sticky can help but it's doable with incremental damage/abusing bond) but damn satisfying. Anyways, it's great, figuring out the fusions is most of what I find fun, there's a sense of wonder in trying (or not) to mash up beasties together and getting something unexpected with very different mechanics (Omg SOLAR is probably one of my faves by virtue of its unique skills). On the downsides, there are a few, and maybe it's cuz I didn't pay attention, but I had a hard time figuring what is attacking what, what creatures are bonded together, and what some items do (a bit frustrated by the fact I'm unable to check my items outside of combat tbh, but again, maybe I haven't paid attention), and I'm pretty sure some creatures have passive skills but it doesn't seem I've been able to check that, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the heck out of it and trying the additional difficulty setting. For once I might even actively try shiny hunting, which I couldn't be made to care for in other creature collection games (that being said, in those other games, shinies tended not to have better stat progression, so, yeah)

Amazing game! The evolings are very well designed and offer a wide variety of strategies, the game could use of some QOL improvements, still it's challenging and refreshing, very clean gameplay loop and very satisfying to win! The runs feel a bit too long, still it's a fun and relaxing game, good job!

A very charming game with a very cool concept. Experimenting with all the monsters and figuring out what the fusion recipes are was definitely a great experience. Now if I'm being honest, the game isn't that stimulating, beyond the thrill of the discovery. It's very "unbalanced". Not in the sense it's too hard. If anything, the game is actually way too easy. There's just a huge gap between items and monsters that are underwhelming, and those that are extremely strong, and the game makes it way too easy for you to find everything you want if you're looking for something specific, as opposed to most roguelikes where you're forced to constantly adapt. Only 35-ish items, a wide choice in every shop and an absurdly cheap reroll cost make the game very abusable. You can buy a single cheap item to store until a boss fight and completely break it. You can break the entire game with a few simple synergies (A mass heal evoling with the item that converts overheal into shield and/or the one that deals damage equivalent to your healing, the item that converts every damage to poison and an evoling that removes status effects each turn, the item that redirects all damage to one target and has "abuse" written all over it...) Basically, if you have a decent knowledge of the game, you just can't lose. I'm also really not a fan of the box mechanic, that usually appears twice in a run, and lets you store/withdraw any number of evolings across runs. To me, the point of a roguelike is to try and become more consistent at it, and giving an option to sabotage a run to make the next one an autowin kind of defeats that purpose. Ultimately, I think what makes Evolings a cool game instead of a great one is its lack of consistency, and it could benefit immensely from a more detail-oriented approach. I love the concept, though, and what the game does right is certainly entertaining. I just don't see any point in playing in the long run for the time being.
