Campy fun. You get to build your own super villain lair, research fiendish devices, and carry out missions in the world. The game is older so sometimes the interface feels a bit clunky (selecting troops under traps is difficult). I got hung up on building my rocket parts for my doomsday device for a while (required right-clicking on the stone tiles of the map, instead of right clicking the room you want to build in - unlike everything else you build in the game). Sometimes I was wishing for a "speed up time" button as plotting on the world map, or recruiting the troops you needed, took 5+ minutes. Still a fun game.

It's a fun game. Building and managing the lair of a sinister Bond villain at the height of the cold war is a charming concept and there's plenty to do in terms of setting up traps and distractions for pesky secret agents trying to unravel your operations. Rather than controlling your horde of minions directly, build rooms and equipment and establish time clocks so they keep the base running smooth... Except when they decide the high priority time clock in the armory isn't worth bothering with so the alerts desk is left unmanned for several minutes allowing agents to just walk past the security cameras unharassed. On that note, the AI of this game is pretty dated and it shows. You can exploit enemies into freezing up (Lord Kane best henchman) and your own minions tend to get struck with the stupid from time to time. Don't play on hard difficulty, by the way.

I'm a fan of Dungeon Keeper type games, (DK2, Dungeons2 and 3, War for the Overworld) and really enjoyed EG, however it differs from DK in significant ways that requires more patience. For example, you only get to create two bases throughout the game, unlike DK where you build many dungeons, which I think most fans like me enjoy. Conversely, although you don't get to design as many bases, I spent more time planning each EG base than in DK, especially the second base, it was my favorite part of EG. Unlike DK type games you spend a lot more time just waiting for events to happen on the world stage. It's fun to monitor and improve the functioning of your base over time while you wait, but the game does have a slower tempo than DK type games and there will be hours where you are just sort of watching and maintaining stuff while waiting for a handful of things to happen. The most frustrating part of the game is trying to get your minions to operate with any sort of teamwork to defend the base, but with practice it can be done well enough to scrape by. Also, be aware that under some conditions the lab may stop working/inventing and you may have to do something to get it working again, like move some of the machines around. So build your lab a little bigger than you think you'll need so you'll have room to move the biggest machine into an open place, and then another machine into the place the first machine just vacated, and so forth. Then I was able to move them back. I admit there were a few times when I was a bit bored and thought about quitting, but not really, and I'm glad I finished the game. I'm looking forward to trying EG2, but haven't played it yet.

Very fun/addicting tycoon game where you play as 1 of 3 evil geniuses to take over the world and build up you evil lair and island. I have had the game for about 3 days and I have 22 hours on it. Its an old game but its definetley a gem. I don't see myself stopping playing the game until I have completed the campaign 100% and build my layer and island to my desire as it is just that fun 10/10.

I made the mistake of recruiting the Red Ivan. He blew up half my base while fighting some enemy soldiers. Exiled him to the world map where he could steal money for me without risking destroying my stuff. I recalled him for the final objective since we no longer needed any money and I figure it doesn't matter if the base goes up in flames during the climax. Pretty much as soon as he lands back on the island with his couple of mercenaries he runs into Agent Steele and absolutely bodies him before he can enter the base. 10/10 would exile an explosives expert, forget he exists, and then have him show up for a Big Damn Hero moment in the finale. But also the way the game allows those kind of organic moments to happen is a lot of the fun; and it really encourages you to do things that are more dramatic/theatrical than what would actually be most effective. Just a fun experience all round.
