My only issue is I wish the game was longer, managed to complete it in around 3.5 hours. The visuals for this game are stunning, with beautiful scenery and locations which make me wish for more of an open world type game just like this. The game mechanics were easy to pick up and felt very satisfying to use. The story was amazing, what I thought was going to be a relatively straight forward story evolved into such a remarkable tale which genuinely made me emotional by the end. However, the one thing that trumps all these things is the MUSIC. I'm not kidding, I need the music on Spotify asap. It just brought the game to life, and I will be replaying it for multiple reasons, but this is the main one for me. Highly recommend.

If you value gameplay over aesthetics, you best steer away. But if you enjoy relaxed exploratory gameplay set in stunning environments, head to Europa. First, the soft spots. The controls, as others have noted, are a bit dodgy. The jumping control operates more or less exactly backwards from every game since Mario. Normally when you hit a jump button you instantly jump, with the height of the jump determined by how long you then hold the button down. In Europa you don't jump until you release the jump button, so you can 'charge' a longer jump. If you push and hold the jump button again while in midair you will 'glide'. Over time I coped with this mechanic, but it never felt natural, it doesn't flow well, and occasionally when leaping to a floating crate I would instead bunny-hop into the abyss. Combine this odd jump behavior with the competing floating mechanic of the 'Zephyr' (the cylindrical device you wear on your back) and hilarity ensues. The Zephyr lets you fly and float--but only if it is charged. If you intend to 'jump and glide' but instead 'jump and float' with a depleted Zephyr, well, enjoy your plummet to the ground. In any case, the eccentric controls are acceptable because the game doesn't require tight, precise maneuvering. Even my fumbling fingers got the job done. The margins for error are generous, and failure is rarely punished. Europa's heart is closer to 'walking simulator' than '3D action platformer.' Do I wish the controls were better? Yes. Is it a fatal flaw? No, far from it. Likewise, the story is a mixed bag. Early promise that this might be an interesting tale, with faint allusions to Genesis and Milton and Shelley (probably only in my mind), sadly gives way to banality. And as often happens when developers attempt to have a narrator wax profound, the results are sophomoric. For roughly half of the game, the story falters to ensure the player gets 'the message,' forgetting the cardinal rule of storytelling: 'show, don't tell.' I also found the protagonist almost a non-entity. Except for the wilted little grunt he emits every time he jumps, he doesn't speak or emote or reflect. His character development is a huge missed opportunity: there is none. But enough criticism. While the story is lacking, the journey itself is compelling. The environments are grand and glorious. The music is excellent. The in-game cutscenes are fabulous. As a game of exploration and discovery it delivers the goods. I goggled at the sights and sounds, which changed from scene to scene and stayed fresh and interesting from beginning to end. The world is alive with intriguing creatures, both friendly and hostile. The hostile creatures add some needed conflict to the gameplay without overwhelming it; dodging their ranged attacks is simple fun (there are no melee attacks). The visual navigation cues are well done. I found where I needed to go easily enough without getting lost, and I can get lost in the time it takes me to put on my socks. Puzzles are intuitive and add a pleasant change to the pacing. You won't be stumped. As a game world, Europa is well realized and a delight to explore, making its strengths far outweigh its defects.

This game goes against the trend and shows us that we don't need endless playtime to have a memorable experience while gaming. Great visuals, sound design, and give the movement dev a raise. If you like games like Journey and Abzu, you'll enjoy this one. Here's a full walkthrough on YouTube if you're interested: https://youtu.be/iwc6Tn71tf8

I've only had the chance to play the very start of the game but can already tell this game was made for me. The game looks lovely and plays flawlessly. The movement is just so free, you can jump, float, glide and slide around an absolutely gorgeous world. I hope the devs are proud of the game they have made because based on only 20 odd minutes of play, they should be
