pros: extremely detailed everything seems right to me (i have not operated a sail boat in real life so I'm probably not the best judge for realism) very relaxing i have a better understanding of how sailboats work cons would love to see a real world map akin to msfs. would be awesome to just set sail across the Atlantic wouldn't mind more boats i cant stop looking at cheap craigslist sail boats tldr it floats my boat

If you're looking for a realistic sailing simulator to get introduced to sailing or practice your skills, this is probably the best option you'll find. While it doesn't have the best graphics, it excels in physics and realism. I've been using eSail to practice while studying for my sailing license, and it has really helped me apply many concepts. The tutorials are excellent for beginners, and there are additional challenges for more advanced users. I did encounter some minor issues, but I'm confident the developer is working to improve them. The pros definitely outweigh the cons, and the customer support is great.

its not a game, although it does have some competitive activities. Its a training platform for someone who is getting into sailing. It is simple but interactive enough to allow for basic handling experiance and educational purpose. Too bad it does not allow for more options like selecting type of boat, or different maps, including an abilty for a long term passages.

I have done a lot of real life sailing and this sim is very accurate. I literally get the same emotions I get on my sailing boat, uneasiness when the wind is very strong, peace when running before the wind, excitement in racing, frustration when a 'nearby' island takes so long to reach. I also love the fact that there is so much else to do! From real time races to time trials to treasure hunts which unlock extra areas of the map. You can also learn what every line does on a boat and how to use winches, trim sails, moor and anchor. Excellent sim and well worth the money.

As a solo sailer with over 20 years under my belt, I can say that overall, it is quite good. I liked the sailing dynamics; they seem realistic. Wave/hull interaction is close to real. Prop walk is a most welcome mechanic; this is the only game/sim I know that has modeled it. A shame, since it is a very important consideration when mooring with a single-prop boat. I particularly liked the ability to actually twist the sail for fine-tuning the trim. The user interface takes a little getting used to; initally not very intiutive but when you get the hang of it, quite effective. Mooring is very simplified (of course), but makes for good practice. My only gripe would be about anchoring: I'd normally never use the windlass when laying anchor; I use it only for retrieving it. And also, there is no rule that you must be reversing when laying anchor. On the contrary, I normally cast the anchor when underway at around a knot or two, let it grab the bottom, and spin the boat around to my target position. I could not do that in this sim. In any case, this is the most realistic small-boat sailing simulator on the market. I strongly recommend it to both experienced and novice sailors. Good training tool.
