Would I recommend this game? Lower your expectations and treat this as a game you could play once or twice with the same group of friends. If you have the money and friends to play with and not many other games you could play together, why not. I will just list things you could keep in mind if you consider playing this game. 1. It can be a pain to join friends, + the game has connectivity issues. The in-game joining feature (the menu that should show your friends' lobbies) can be buggy at this time. My friends claim they saw my lobby in their menu when I hosted it, but I had never seen any lobbies listed when they hosted it themselves. -> Instead of relying on the in-game joining feature, we worked around this by joining through the Steam friends list (invites work, too) + At the beginning of each session, anyone other than the host has a CHANCE to disconnect. It is possible to re-join soon after the game loads (Not sure how much time you have). If you can't join back through your Steam friends list quickly enough, you'll have to ask your friend to re-host their lobby :( 2. You CAN ignore the in-game guide. But you'll go back to reading it. Probably... The game can be confusing at times without the guide. You are free to try to figure out what to do while you're playing, but doing so will make the game challenging. If you want to avoid reading the guide at the beginning of the game, don't worry; you can access it anytime in your menu. This may be an okay tip: Sometimes, you'll sit in a building and wait for the creatures to go somewhere away from the general area. I used that time to banter with friends while reading the guide whenever we felt we didn't know what we were doing. We didn't prep before any missions but learned more about the game and mission as we progressed through them. It was doable and made it more enjoyable for us this way. 3. The game has its moments I'm not talking about the story; I'm talking about scary and funny moments. Just banter and have fun with friends. You'll be able to find out what I'm talking about while doing just that. 4. Localization is still in progress My friends and I are Japanese, and we enjoyed the hilarious localization errors while playing in Japanese. My favorite was in the quit menu 「本気にやめる気」(I seriously want to quit) Add a question mark at the end, and it would be ([Intimidating] You seriously want to quit?) lmao Jokes aside, they do have a Google form where you can help them point out these localization errors. I pointed out some they could fix, but I wish they could keep that one... Help them out if you've got the time! TL: DR Lower your expectations and bring your friends along! You'll probably only play it once or twice with the same group of friends, but it might be a pleasantly scary and fun experience. You can refer to some of the things I mentioned about issues (like connection-related stuff) and not have to figure out how to work around them during gameplay. If you read this and think, "Oh, this doesn't sound too bad," I'd say it's a game you can give it a try.

I enjoyed this game, honestly. I did take note of the complaints before going into it, but having run through it all myself, I didn't have nearly as much bother. The screen effect doesn't last long if you don't put your cursor on the monster, and you can run from it and get out of the effect range if it aggros. And as someone with severe motion sickness, I wasn't half as bothered by this as say Overwatch. I loved the maps too, myself. Even Sentinel- which is a large map yes, but I didn't find it 'empty' at all. Having open space that wasn't clustered every 5 feet with items meant that it's a map I can spend time on either myself or with friends and didn't end in 10mins. The game gives you a map too, to map out. And while you can't see yourself on it, it definitely let you know that you weren't walking 30 miles to get to an important point. As a lore junkie too, I loved the library where you could find items/scrolls/etc. in the maps to fill out the empty shelves. I loved the way they did the tutorial area- short, easy, quick to understand. No bugs or glitches in the game I could personally find, myself. The voice acting was cool, and the entire setup for your hub, the maps, etc. was really well done for being an almost completely unknown game. tl;dr Goddamn good game. Also good with friends.

Unholy Threesome What you need to Know Eresys is a short game on its own, featuring three different missions. One of them is stupidly long, another is incredibly short, and the final is almost well balanced. The whole gameplay is about finding items (ritual pages, blood vials) and making as less noise as possible. What is great - each map delivers different experience. the Huge Forest. Takes roughly 40mins to walk around and twice more to complete all objectives. Quite abundant with points of interests (read - safe zones for you) with supplies and collectibles. I actually spent about 3hrs on my first play here, because I had no freaking clue where to go and what to do. Died thousand times to various figures and abominations. Fantastic journey! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3228441113 This area gets so dark as you progress with the quest, it's really ominous. Using light is not an option - attracts all sort of creatures. the Small Omni-present Innsmouth. Been there, done that... oh wait! No! It's a new feel! Because it's a daytime! You still search for the items, but time is running out - every now and then the Deep Ones attack the port and you have to hide. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3229732173 the Stressful The cherry on the cake - the Temple adventure. It's as great as it's unbearable. You can't hide here or proceed at your pace - the hunt is real and within lanterns' light beam! Five locations to complete in one go, while constantly under pressure and for what? Saving private Cultist! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3228441689 I enjoyed Eresys. Crouching/running walking simulator with solid horrors. It has coop option, but I never used it. I found multiple amazing in-game collectibles - shiny metal plaques with Lovecraftian bestiary, which studied with authentic interest. I wish there were more missions/areas to beat, but on its own - Eresys is pretty nice.

One of the games that best captures Lovecraft's atmosphere, the mechanics are engaging and it is actually scary in the most Lovecraftian way. Each map has a different mechanic and mission which is a great idea. Looks like it has a lot of potential and devs are active. We had fun and didn't encounter many bugs.

I think people are a tad too critical of this game. A lot of the reviews are older and I believe a fair amount of their complaints have been addressed. I haven't had any noticeable issues with the AI (yet) and the visual effect that you get when you look at or get chased by a monster can be toned down a bit (which I very, very strongly recommend doing). I think the game is pretty good value with it's price? I got it on sale for like $3, and the $10 price point it sits at normally feels pretty fair to me
