A wonderful, calm little game I clearly (after 177 hours) love very much. I don't know how to categorise Equilinox, really. It's sort of casual meets puzzle, meets Lego, meets management? Except none of those are stressful. This is one of those games I turn on if I'm stressed or very brain-tired after work. Pop a video, podcast or playlist on and just zone out while making a pretty little landscape for all of my lil guys. The core gameplay loop is this: You buy both animals and plants with a currency called DP. Every animal you plop onto the map earns you a certain amount of DP per minute, but in order to make sure the animals a) don't die and b) have kids to multiply your DP earned, you need to plop down certain plants. Grass, flowers, trees, lilypads - different animals like different things. There are also rocks and shells and stuff. If you fulfil certain criteria, you can evolve a new species from another - say, you place some herbs and flowers next to your oak tree. You can now make a sycamore tree! And look, that sycamore will spread another type of biome, which will help you evolve your little sheep into a deer! Hooray! Now if only I turn this daisy blue and evolve it into a tulip, we'd really be cooking... After a species has been evolved, it unlocks, and aside from getting one when you evolve, you can buy as many as you like with DP. There are also tasks to complete, which will earn you DP and unlock new things. These also act as the tutorial, walking you through on how to use the basic mechanics. And... That's it, really. You're just evolving things to get new things to evolve those things with, and getting enough DP to craft the landscape *you* want. I like putting a million huge flowers in the Grassland biome, or evolving my fish to be every colour under the sun and popping them all into the same Tropical ocean. Good stuff, man.

This is a very simple yet complex game. I have not completed the game but I've played it many times over the years and there's a couple tips I'm gonna throw out for people struggle or feeling like progression is slow. First: Go big. You have a ton of space. feel free to dedicate a good 10-20% of the map to grasslands if you feel like it. You can easily remove it later and early on it will make splitting all the various branches off it much easier without hindering your other plants and animals. Second: Don't focus on doing every task at the start. Focus on getting all your main plants and animals for one habitat first and prioritize plants before animals. It's very easy to want to grow and explore fast but you'll find yourself missing plants, running low on DP constantly, and struggling to keep all your species alive and well. Third: Some animals are just difficult to work with, you can ignore them if needed or split them into drastically different areas. Chickens and Salmon are an example. Salmon evolve from trout, which can live next to red fish. Create a second habitat for your salmon somewhere else. Same with chickens. Idk why Chickens hate trees but it's extremely difficult to manage. Once you can evolve into sparrows, feel free to ignore the chickens. This goes for future progression but these are 2 early examples. Fourth: Don't focus energy on trying to maximize a species happiness all the time. Animals will sometimes wander into bad habitats, drop their health, and you'll panic, but the animal will come back and be fine. If an animal is at 75%+ happiness, just let it be. Get its liked and disliked species in order and move to the next task. Keep making the plants for the area and spreading them, satisfying one thing at a time. Finally: Make your trees and animals different colors, its very pretty. Have fun and don't try too hard to go too fast. Focus on one habitat at a time. When you think you're good, look for the next evolution and if you're stuck, check the tasks.

Such a fun and relaxing game. Watching your animals roam around and interact with other animals or plants is so fun. There are many unique interactions in the game, such as beavers making dams, birds making nests or bees making hives (and many more). The game has about 10 hours worth of content and it is well worth the price!
