Epic Battle Fantasy Collection is a bundle of flash games I used to play back when I was a child on the good ol Kongregate days. This brought back a lot of nostalgia for me, although this collection has more games that I'm trying for the first time. Surprisingly, some of them were quite difficult though still enjoyable. I like that this game talks about the history of each game and also sharing of the design ideas of the assets. Definitely worth soaking your feet in this before trying out the other Epic Battle Fantasy games!

All of Matt's games are special and cool, very glad to have this collection ever since Flash games became less accessible. The bonuses are a nice touch, too. Please support this guy, he's a phenomenal dev.

Flash game nostalgia: polished up, and with some steam achievements to give you reason to play these games outside of just nostalgia. Thank you Matt, and Kupo Games, for all of the hours of free gaming in my childhood

You get so many content for such small price it's insane, definitely worth it. Though, the first game sucked ass on Epic difficulty, especially the last boss because of how unfair it is. Other than that, I have no problem.

After dozens of hours, and finally completing the entire collection I would like to share my thoughts on all of the games. Mecha Dress-Up: What even is there to say? This is exactly what it sounds like, and nothing more. The music is weirdly good though. Brawl Royale: A simple, short Samurai Kirby style game. On normal, I found it pretty easy, but it got a smile out of me. I liked it. The Kitten Game: This game is genuinely awful. Not fun at all, really edgy, I had to use an external auto clicker and it was STILL too difficult. I hated every second of this one, and would genuinely give it a 0/10. Epic Battle Fantasy: Ah, the game that made me want this collection, the one from my childhood. I remember the hours I spent trying and failing to beat the final boss. It holds up quite well. It's simple, but a lot of fun, even if not too replayable on account of the lack of character progression system. As a protip, I didn't realize how necessary buffs and debuffs are. They turn the final boss into a fair challenge instead of hell. Epic Battle Fantasy 2: I played the second half of this collection in reverse order, so this was the one I ended on. It is a clear step up from 1 in almost every way, and the characters have little quips. Which is where my second biggest problem with this game lays. Matt, the main character of the series, is weirdly sexist in this game and it was off putting to me. I didn't expect to see lines like "Go back to the kitchen" when the female partner and main character Natalie dies. I didn't like that at all. In addition, onto my biggest problem, and one that is actually gameplay related, there are points where, if you get unlucky, you can lose two whole areas and a boss to bad luck, as two of the bosses off the top of my head are capable of taking your party from max HP to totally dead in a single turn. The final boss is a notable example. In my playthrough, Natalie was capable of greater damage output than Matt, but using her that way in the final boss is not just inadvisable, it's straight up not an option on Epic difficulty. She has to constantly be healing, or setting up auto life, rarely ever able to get hits in. In addition, the game does not make it clear at all how skills are pulled up as options. Some of the achievements you will not get if you don't know how they work, as they rely on having specific skills. I think the game is more fun and fair when you understand how they work at least a little bit. Bullet Heaven: One of the best and worst games on this entire collection. It is a very well crafted bullet hell, the first I've ever played in fact, and getting through the tougher levels was infuriating, but rewarding. That said, this collection doesn't seem to be optimized the best, and no game is hit by the lag as hard as this one. It can feel borderline unplayable at times. If you can get past that, then you can probably have an amazing time with this one. That said, Matt and Lance are the only characters that even felt viable to me, every other character simply couldn't stack up to them in terms of damage, bombs, or anything else really. It doesn't leave things feeling too free. Epic Battle Fantasy Adventure Story: This might be the best game in the entire collection if not for the bonus levels added to this version. In particular, bonus one. This game is a fun, fairly chill action platformer/collectathon, and I liked it a lot, right up until I got to bonus one. This level feels unfair. The rest of the game has tame platforming, nothing too bad, then this level shows up and asks of you precision platformer levels of skill and gameplay, in a game that does not at all feel built for that. It nearly broke me. It was infuriating. At last, we come to Cat Cafe. This game... made me glad that I played these in reverse order on the second row. This game is boring, basic, and WELL overstays its welcome by the time you can get all the medals. I wouldn't call it as bad as The Kitten Game, but I would put it only just above that one. It's not bad, but it's definitely not "good" either. So, overall, what did I think? I would definitely recommend it for the 4.5 great titles, they carry this collection to EASILY be worth the price. They hold hours of entertainment value, and one of them is EXTREMELY replayable too. For the other two games, Cat Cafe can be entertaining for like 20 minutes, maybe more, but the achievements are really grindy. The Kitten Game... Avoid this one. If you aren't a completionist, just don't play this one. It is not good at all. Mecha Dress-Up... I dunno, are you interested in the title? Yes? Then have a blast. No? Then it isn't offensive, but isn't a game either. My ratings: MDU: ??? Brawl Royale: 8/10, TKG: 0/10, EBF:8.5/10, EBF2: 9/10, BH: 8.5/10, EBF:AS: 9/10, CC: 6/10. Overall: 8.5/10. If these scores seem unfairly high, the ones I rated highly, I rate games for what they are, not comparing them to the best ever. I feel that way is more fair.
