You can get the game for free by following this link: https://steamcommunity.com/app/208140/discussions/0/1742232339930889598/ This is what happens when people get used to overpriced games. They see a good game for $1 and start getting suspicious. Endless Space is not the typical type of indie greenlight game trash that floats all over steam. It's a good well-developed game. Also, I hate all that "for $1 anything is good lol" reviews. So I decided to make a review myself. The game isn't perfect. ES may be not the right choice for a newcomer to the 4x genre. It is very rough on edges and lacks proper tutorial. Some tips for beginners. 1. Beware of pirates and random events. Events mostly negative and can be very harsh. Both can be disabled in game settings. 2. AI cheats on all difficulties starting from normal, and it likes to spam ships. Be prepared for war. However, unlike Total War series, here the AI is not so prone to backstab you. You will probably see when and why if it gets pissy. 3. LR kinetics rules. 4. For me, the most complicated thing to start with this game was a tech tree. It took me hours to figure what the final goals of my research should be. But then I just gave up and started to pick from those technologies which I could research at the moment and which would be most useful as of right now. 5. "The lines to the new systems looked wavy and I didn't know which research would let me pass it." Those are wormholes. The game didn't explain it well. But you need to unlock Applied Casimir Effect tech from the Exploration&Expansion tech branch. Overall I rate this game as a solid but average 4x strategy with its lowest in simplistic combat, rudimentary diplomacy.

It's a 4X game that heavily draws inspiration from resource types and weights in other 4X games. The core gameplay should be familiar to 4X fans and possible to digest over time for players who don't have that level of familiarity...albeit from learning via trial and error. Probably a lot of error. Everyone needs to start somewhere. The biggest unique area for Endless Space is in the fleet management system, where you can use your researched technology to create completely unique ships which engage in detailed simulated battles where you can even apply tactical gambits in a bit to win a complex Rock/Paper/Scissors variant with interesting weights and consequences. The entire system feels fun and novel if a bit clunky. I enjoyed both the ship design and the interstellar battles. As a whole it carries the theme of space well. This game is much more like "Civilization in space but with a weird tech tree and a complex fleet battle system" than a competitor for Stellaris. Definitely do not come into this game expecting anything resembling Stellaris, if for whatever reason you've played Stellaris and know nothing about Endless Space. It's a good game, though, if you give it a chance. The different species are unique and creative, with intriguing advantages and disadvantages.

It is a old game, i personally think endless space 2 is a better game in every aspect.

This is a strange mixture of Sins of a Solar Empire and Civilization in space. It's fun, relatively unique, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. Unfortunately, the game is very repetitive very quickly because there are relatively few things to because each research only give you one or two improvements to build on your planets. And the combat only gives you a few customization options, but it really comes down to throwing the most weapons your ships and make a few adaptions on the enemy layout. Overall it's fun, but limited replayability.

I've been playing this game for a decade and finally decided to leave a review. It is a fantastic 4X turn-based game. The interface is rather straight-forward for a game of this type. An addictive game with a healthy dose of "just one more turn" appeal! Especially for a game of this vintage, the graphics and sound are good to excellent. Over time, learning the behaviour patterns of the various factions can be very beneficial. While some of the game is left to chance (the game seed, the heroes made available to you, the action of pirates in your area), it's enough to make the game interesting instead of being the primary factor in the game. If the game starts to become too easy, start ramping up the difficulty! There are some minor frustrations with the game. The event icons on the right stack from the bottom up instead of top down, causing all the icons to move mid-turn as events happen, making it easy to click on the wrong icon. Similarly, new battles sometimes (but not always?!) appear suddenly in the middle of the screen instead of just an event icon on the right. Depending on your screen resolution, this can lead you to click "Auto" on a battle (with no battle cards chosen) when you think you are just clicking "Done" on some other notification. This sometimes can have catastrophic results! I find this game superior to Endless Space 2.
