INTRODUCTION It's hard to describe why this game is good. A lot of people may even say it's not good but the amount of content you get for the low price of only $5 is honestly impressive for a small indie developer. Although its no AAA title, it still keeps up a level of quality throughout the whole experience that far exceeds what one would expect. It may seem like i'm giving the game too much credit but if you have played the game to completion you understand what i mean. Even if i only played the game for a total of 1.4 hours, I've spent many more thinking about the game and the deep complex mechanics buried beneath the surface. The game seem quite simple when it begins telling you to, as the title says, squeeze an egg but it quickly builds upon that base mechanic to make something as simple as squeezing an egg take a lot of practice and strategy. ACT ONE The game begins in a dark room. I thought it didn't start because many games open to a loading screen or something but after a couple of minutes an egg appeared in the center of the screen. No UI, no HUD, just me and an egg in a endless void of darkness. One thing its clear to note from the very beginning is that Egg Squeeze puts a lot of time and effort into building the atmosphere around every scene and environment. Even the menus have their own special flair that changes as the game goes on to reflect your progress. Anyways, back to the egg in the void. The only instruction the player is given is to squeeze. Again this is a little odd because there's no way for the player to squeeze the egg when this prompt first appears but after another few quick minutes the players arm start to rise from the bottom of the screen. At last after about 7 minutes or so the arm finally reaches the egg and the true game begins. ACT TWO THE EGG IS SQUEEZED. With a quick tap of the space bar or a click of the mouse the players hand wraps around the egg and begins to apply firm but balanced pressure. The game warns you at this point to be cautious with how much force you squeeze the egg with as there is a risk that you could crack and, god forbid, break the egg. I paused the game when this warning appeared to see how to change my egg squeezing force as there was no instruction given earlier in the game. When the menu opened and i selected controls it didn't give me any instructions. I did realise that the game actually supports a wide variety of different control schemes using different controllers. Of course there is the classic keyboard and mouse as well as most present day controllers but it also supports many other control devices such as a joystick, pedal, virtual reality headsets and controllers, steering wheel, rock band controllers (no support for guitar hero input devices though), motorcycle sim handle bar, Logitech and 8BitDo controllers, and the wii fit balance board. The amount of care that was given to provide people with this many options is very impressive and blew me away when i first saw it. Sadly, using the Xbox Elite controller is not supported because of issues with the analog buttons so i decided to stick with keyboard and mouse. After paying close attention to the image of the players hand it became clear that by moving the mouse up and down you can change the force that is applied to the egg. I started lowering the pressure which the egg was being squeezed with. This was to avoid causing it any harm but i realised too late that this does not end with the player holding the egg delicately. The fingers released. I watched in horror as the egg fell from my hand. I quickly jerked my mouse upward to catch the egg but i was too late and it was beyond my reach. It fell down and down into the darkness. ACT THREE Alone again, the void surrounded all sides. I waited again just as I had when the game first began until (after a few seconds this time) a new egg had come onto my screen. This one was similar to the same but had subtle differences in the texture and colour. I was preparing myself to, once again, squeeze the egg but i realised that there was no message telling me to do so anymore. Although there was nothing telling me to squeeze this time i still felt compelled to do so and i clicked and began squeezing. This time went much better. i was far more confident in the ability of the egg to withstand the pressure of the squeeze and let it ride at the starting strength for a while. after a few minutes though the egg began to shake. i feared the worst. it was too hard. the egg, with all its strength, still could not hold out much longer and would soon crack. I began lowering my mouse carefully to allow the eggs tremors to subside and soon after, the egg was still once more. This peace was not eternal though as the egg began to quiver once again. This time felt different though. Instead of a constant rumble there was a rhythmic tap with varying intervals between each strike. The was only one conclusion that could be drawn. The egg is hatching. ACT FOUR At this point the game takes an interesting turn by adding an 8 year time skip. This is pretty strange but after playing the game to completion it make much more sense. The game resumes in that dark empty void with one instruction. Squeeze. Of course, i press space expecting the hand to grasp at nothing but to my surprise the hand grabs some invisible item which is then tugged downward. It was a chain to a light! After so long the darkness is finally illuminated and the scene of a run down basement of a house appears in front of me. I look around to see if there is anything that i can do but the game still only gives me one input and no other. Without the ability to move or look around i sit there waiting for something to happen. As time passes the light flickers subtly and nothing much happens but after a few minutes the camera begins to move. I seem to stand and begin to walk towards the stairway upwards which I climb quickly to emerge in a large open field. As the camera continues to move i wonder what had come of the egg which i had so delicately cared for just 8 years prior. As though my thoughts had manifested in front of me, a large chicken appeared on a table in front of the camera. It was clear this was the chick which hatched from the egg so many years ago. ACT FIVE The chicken laid on the table. Its small eyes looking back at the player almost as if it recognised them from so many years ago. Carefully, the camera resumes its approach and the player finally reaches the chicken. Without control, the hand of the player approaches and places its palm delicately on the head of the chicken caressing its feathers with care and love as the small eyes look back with remembrance. It could not last though as the game must continue. lower goes the hand as it approaches the neck of the chicken. i couldn't believe my eyes as at the top of the screen another message appeared. I wished it to be anything else but as my eyes raised I read the words. Squeeze. It was clear what i had to do. The game told me what to do. There was nothing else i could possibly do. The eyes of my dear fowl peered up at me with understanding. It knew what came next. As tears streaked down my face i understood what had to happen. My thumb hovered over the space bar quivering with fear. lower. lower. lower. i felt the plastic on the pad on my thumb and i froze. I couldn't move. I refused. I lifted my thumb carefully as to not make a mistake i could not return from. I needed to find another way. I desperately looked around the screen for any hope of escape to no avail. Nothing in the window provided any comfort from what the game clearly wanted me to do. Nothing inside the window... but on the edge? As with all windowed applications the red x in the top corner stared me in the face. i moved the mouse and escaped this Egg Squeeze prison.

Fun little timing game. You can figure out how to game the system pretty quickly, but I don't mind. The game would be much more frustrating otherwise. You can get through the endings in about an hour or so, after which it unlocks an endless mode so you can see more secret content/get achievements. For the price it's an entertaining experience.

Contrary to the game's title you can in fact squeeze multiple eggs, but never more than one at a time so it gets a thumbs up from me
