I wish Steam could give a neutral rating because this game is really a mixed bag. I'll try to be fair and give both the negative and positive. The main problem is a big one, but afterwards I'll show what I did like. Main problem --------------- Everything is held back by a horrendous pacing issue. Someone needs to keep the narrative designer in check because the man is a maniac. They've added the functionality to fast forward through conversations/cut scenes and at a certain point I made the conscious decision to keep that button pressed during 90% of the dialogue. I'm sad to say that even though I skipped all of that dialogue, I was still perfectly able to follow the story. If I were to distill the pacing into a Gen Z sentence, it would be a resounding "Bro's yapping". The absurdity was raised to another level when, in the penultimate chapter of the story, I was still asked to play mailman and deliver letters to 3 random people in town. When I'm asked in a game where it feels like the length has been stretched artificially, to repeat certain tasks over and over again...well, it feels like a slap in the face. The absolute audacity to force me to do errands after I've been skipping 20min of dialogue. It shows a total lack of respect regarding my time. So...why did I finish it? ------------------------ The artwork is absolutely exceptional. I've never seen pixel art as atmospheric and beautiful as in this game. Level; character and boss design were next-level. Even though the combat lacked diversity and I found it overall to be easy, I enjoyed solving the puzzles and I applaud the creativity shown during the 'dungeons' in the final chapters. It's just a shame that only 10% of players will experience it... In the end I found the story to be pretty ok, but it's held back by the pacing. Without the fast forward button, I would've never had the patience to finish this. The way they explain things in the end, could've been resolved better. They really had to trim the fat and I hope they'll learn from this mistake for their next game. That's why I still recommend this game. Because the talent in artistry and game design is clearly visible here and I want them to get enough funds to learn from this and make an exceptional game next.

The art in this game absolutely blows me away. It makes you want to explore every nook and cranny of the game. The story was alright and it was pretty cookie cutter 8 hours in until they started switching it up. Was switching it up a good idea? Maybe not maybe yes (personally it wasn't for me), but at least they put a effort to make a original story so thumbs up for that. The story definitely overstays its welcome towards the end and starts dragging on but the ending was worth it imo. It also had a hard time retaining my attention but that's just a me problem.

TLDR; Recommended only if you can handle the game's horribly frustrating combat and boss-sections and sometimes loooooong boring dialogue that goes on forever along with lots of walking around and back-tracking and then some before you can jump back into action/puzzles again. The Good: Beautiful pixel art graphics and funny animations where everyone likes to jiggle their dongs/boobas. Great sounds and awesome music tracks especially in some key sections that hype you UP! Weird wacky colorful characters left and right The dialogue's an absolute blast if played with a buncha friends around you or on youtube/stream, doing voices and whatnot. Cool cooking system that allows you to mix ingredients into food that recovers and boosts health and gives extra effects. Very neat auto-save feature ensures you never lose your progress ever. No crashes, bugs or performance issues whatsoever. The Bad God-awful combat Input registry is really bad. Whenever your character gets hit or there's a cutscene of monsters spawning or doors closing or whatever else, the game stops taking input of your character's actions, which gets super frustrating in combat as you'll occasionally not move when you need to get out of the way. Somehow, it feels at the last possible minute, the developers decided to delete the dodge-roll feature that was in the game all along and ship the game. Now in the current state of the game, with no dodge-roll, melee combat feels VERY stiff and unresponsive. And sadly, there's a LOT of combat in this game. Ranged combat isn't any better because you need to be within hugging distance of the enemy for ranged weapons to work. Franky, combat should have taken a major backseat in this game, but sadly it shares equal parts with dialogue and puzzles, which makes this game a chore to grind through when it comes to combat and boss battles. Too much back-tracking and walking around wasting time between puzzles/action/dialogue sections. The game clocked at 29 hours or so with a few hours of afk time, but overstayed its welcome by about 10 hours, which IS NOT good. As mentioned previously, too much padding with battles or backtracking or deliver this, go there, do that again etc. Some boss battles and chase-sequences will have you rage-quitting. For proof, check my videos linked below. Do be sure to check out this game's DLC Octopia which a massive thumbs-up from me. If you get this game, get the DLC as well. 20 hours of pure farming fun. 'nuff said.

I see a lot of negative reviews from lazy people who don't have the patience to read a single line of dialogue. It's funny to read the comments and discover that "I didn't like it because you need to read it". Or "I just wanted to kill monsters and solve puzzles." So I think you shouldn't have even bought it. If you're going to criticize a game for what should be its potential, you're an idiot. The game is incredible and very well made. The art and animation moved me, as well as the characters' personalities and their internal conflicts. I liked knowing that everyone had depth instead of just being simple NPCs. The game's story and the bond between John and Sam is beautiful and reminded me of another game that I really like. Congratulations, you moved me.
