After 2 months and more, we finally do not need an EPIC account Weirdest decision ever to release a game on Steam and forcing the need of Epic account in the first place. But I am very glad to see they corrected that now. Onto the game itself, EDF 6 offers the most amongst all EDF. Lots of improvements for all the classes, many favourite weapons coming back from EDF5 with plenty more new toys added too. Definitely a must play if you are an EDF fan.

EDIT: Epic Games Account NO LONGER REQUIRED! Pure EDF fun. Cons: [*] Obligatory F*CK Epic Games. [*] There are a handful of mission that reliably crashed, but after trying the first "fix" I found posted on Steam I have not crashed a single time since. [*] At times it can feel lazy and repetitive. Pros: [*] Best weapon balancing yet, way less duds than previous EDF games. [*] Same classic EDF look and feel to the gameplay. [*] New exciting enemies throughout the game, and the integration is improved with less of the clunky "This mission is all about fighting this one new enemy". [*] New weapon slots to give fresh and varied strategy. [*] THE WING DIVER GETS A GAWDDAM LASER SWORD. [*] Even more missions! [*] And the best writing yet, but that gets its own paragraph. Lets talk story. Oh man this game takes the cake and brings so much energy and lore to the series. I have a renewed desire to replay previous installments with a fresh perspective. Throughout the game I had many moments where I was left in awe at the twists and turns. The giddy joy I felt when I had to figure out a way forward near the end of the game was the best gaming I've enjoyed in some time. EDF 5 excited me with new lore and I am happy to report that this game somehow out did that. The theme of time travel brings new heights to the immersion. I have three separate timelines of my own as I play with a group that cannot always play together. We pick up where the person least progressed has left off and I pretend I am just from a future EDF timeline and share small bits of intel about the missions that are new to them and familiar to me. The incoherent nature of the writing keeps me from memorizing missions and keeps things interesting. A huge shoutout to the creative decision to keep OG dub sound bites in the game, especially when they match the plot. All together this is still the EDF I grew up with and love; it's a silly action packed coop that (I never thought I would feel this way) was worth the wait.

This is not the first time this year that a B movie-inspired Steam game about shooting bugs added a third-party account requirement that wasn't previously necessary. In this case, it also happened to be an Epic account. Not Epic Games Store, mind you, but that was never going to go over well with Steam users. The requirement also wasn't disclosed until release day. If you came here wondering why reviews are "Mixed," there's your answer. On the bright side, it's less intrusive than you'd expect (though more than you'd hope), it isn't necessary for offline gameplay, and the developer claims to be looking into removing it. This doesn't seem to have been malicious; just painfully incompetent. As for the game itself? EDF 6 is the best EDF yet. If you liked any of the previous games, you'll like this one. If you haven't played any of the previous games, this is a great place to start. You'll get a little more out of the story if you've experienced EDF 5's story, but that's not a hard requirement. But one warning: if you played EDF 5 particularly recently, you might want to wait a bit before playing this. These are long games, and EDF 6 reuses a lot of assets and most of its systems from EDF 5. You're going to burn out if you play them back to back.

If you've played one EDF you've played them all. It's the same game it's always been, nothing new. Yet, still totally fun. A blast to just hop in and blow away enemies for a few hours. Game gets pretty crazy hard on higher difficulties in the later levels, but you can put a lot of hour in and never even get there. EDF isn't something you ever really intend to 'beat' or 100% as a casual gamer. It's like a great B sci fi flick, it's just fun trash and that's ok. My only complaint is the price, EDF games really should launch at 39.99, they are not a AAA production game, especially since the last 3 major releases seem to be the exact same game just re-released on a slightly improved engine and mildly redesigned levels.

The game's score got ravaged by the Epic debacle, not wholly unjustified. However, it is an EDF game through and through. You'll get everything you've come to expect from the series and more. It's great to see the devs build up and refine the formula. I just hope we won't have to wait years and years for a PC port this time... Make sure to play EDF5 first if you haven't.
