It's a very fun sequel to Dungeons 3! A lot of QOL improvements, like starting full of snots and getting to place tiles ahead of having the money for them. There's just 2 changes I wish they'd make: 1) Automatically, 1 snot will always maintain their post at a gold vein, just to keep a small income flow going. There's nothing more annoying than creating a large building plan of traps or tunnels and running out of money because every single snot abandoned their post. 2) I can't for the life of my figure out why EVIL is the main resource now to revive demons. It's the least renewable of all the resources. It's the hardest to acquire, the least amount of any you'll have, and is needed for research! Really wish they'd change it back to arcana, because there's always tons of that to be unearthed AND a snot can generate it.

Every Dungeons game is filled with character and charm. It makes me think back on the days of Warcraft 3's release wishing we got more games like that.

Feels like playing modern Dungeon Keeper and it's pretty nice. I don't really mind that it's goofy, might be a downside for other people and it's fair. Units and spells feel good, campaign eases you into new tech at a comfortable pace. My only complaint so far is that the Attack command on enemy units appear the same as a movement command, so even tho I give an attack command and it's successful, because in other games it appears differently (like a red circle around attacked units) it often makes me think I missclicked the attack and gave a move command so my units just gonna run there instead of attacking

It’s more of Dungeons 3 I have only played the first five missions of the campaign, as of writing this review, but I feel like I already got a good sense of this game’s core identity and can determine if I should recommend this to others. I recommend this to anyone that liked the previous two games, Dungeons 2 and three, and those who haven't tried the previous one, but think a more light-hearted dungeon management game with lots of fourth wall breaking and (bad) jokes could be fun. The game is very similar to the previous ones in its cartoony style and tone, so it obviously isn't for people, who wants a more serious and dark game. The reference-loving narrator returns from the previous title, along with the Dungeons 3s main character the Dark Elf Talia, who competes to see who can shatter the precious fourth wall the most. And yeah… for those who played Dungeons 3, this doesn’t feel like a new game. Sure, it has the campaign length, and variation, but its just not fresh enough in its style, story, or feel. The main difference is that (like in some of the DLC for Dungeons 3) we are actually evil. The good guys aren’t evil a-holes too, which is nice. For me though, it feels a bit off. Not sure why. On paper, it has all the same things as the previous ones, and I am certain if I play the campaign, it will have variety by introducing new mechanics in the different maps. Part of it, is having so many creatures from the start, rather than being slowly introduced to them over a campaign. It makes them all feel… sort of soulless. Like they don’t have an identity to them. And it often feels like you are just throwing groups of enemies at other groups of enemies, rather than every creature counts. But it also might be, that it doesn’t do enough to make itself its own thing. So, it feels like a movie sequel repeating what happened in the last one with diminishing returns. It isn’t that this game is bad, I just feel like I played it. And I’ve heard the jokes. (Of course, it didn’t help that over the first five maps, one of the jokes is literally that a character is repeating the same famous speech with a minor tweak. I don’t know if that is the game just really loving the joke or trying to be self-deprecating.) It is a solid game, certainly relaxing at the start and teaching everything before it ramps up the pace. And I can definitely see myself playing a few campaign missions every once in a while.

Overall I say its fun, mostly an improvement over the previous game. However, there are some design choices that i find questionable: -Making evilness not just for research, but for demon resurrection and thalya's abilities, while at the same time making it a 'stockpile' resource (you store it in a room, thus limiting how much you can hold at a time), as well as there being minimal passive income -Making it difficult at times to set up defenses (traps). there is no way to deal with the underground lagoons and lava lakes except, well, suck it up and deal with it. -pathfinding AI can be... odd at times. also unit formations act weird, units on the back/side when hitting a turn wont hug the corner, but walk out into the intersection before turning. large formations get scattered as melee and ranged units separate, and dont automatically regroup on move all the time. -Hey in game help menu, whats the breakdown on unit abilities, scaling, role, needs, etc, like in the previous game? help menu: "Good question. idk" -separating jobs from creatures im kinda on the fence over. on the one hand, means i dont have to have diversify and can focus on one faction (given the tight evilness at times, mandatory). on the other, it eats up worker time, and sometimes doesnt get done in favor of other things, like... -Why is it when thalya dies, all the workers drop what theyre doing to revive her? In a run thats already going south, it can make it unsalvageable as any traps/doors that need rebuilding, resources collected, or machines operated dont get done, which can lead to creatures striking/not being revived/etc. I can probably think of some other issues/grumbles/etc, but these are the ones on my mind at the moment. devs, if you actually look through these... -Bridges, please. Even if its just a wooden bridge to cross water/stone for lava and cant be built on, having a way to bridge the gap would be such massive QoL... -more hotkeys. Ex, select only demons/horde/undead. great in coop, if you and your partner use one for defense and one for offence. Also an attack-move, so we can order a 'go here, kill everything along the way' would really help alleviate some of the unit control issues, like formations getting scattered all over because ranged units just stop once they start attacking and dont move up to attack nearby units, plus trying to go somewhere and fighting the small hero teams along the way -please improve the in game help. it explains barely even the minimum. -Hand of evil definitely needs some work. especially trying to pick up dead heroes for the crypt, it practically cant. -theres definitely some optimization to do, at higher unit counts (max creatures, plus a few freebies) the game starts to lag and get choppy still fun, still mostly the same formula, though at times feels more like a resource management game than a dungeon builder, trying to carefully balance your tight resources, especially evilness, until you hit a critical point and suddenly you snowball
