Once again, we're building dungeons™, for the third (and sadly not the last) time. The gameplay loop remains the same; you build an underground dungeon, and occasionally travel to the surface to beat people up. Unfortunately for us, most of the bad things in the second game carried over to the third game. It's still a bloated, buggy mess, featuring half-assed mechanics, bad UI, and systems that don't mesh very well. It still is very much is a clone of a better game, with lots of bad and awkward sprinkled over. Speaking of awkward, it can be used to describe most things in this game, ranging from dialogue, to game mechanics. The UI, for instance. Parts of it are either confusing, and/or redundant. A lot of it could've been condensed into a single, big menu. The gameplay isn't any better, either; even the act of picking your minions up, and putting them down, which you'll be doing all game, is also clunky. Commanding your army to exit your dungeon, something you'll also be doing plenty, is also unintuitive. Other points include: building stuff taking too long, certain things being needlessly expensive, some resources being too scarce, splitting up your military units into working/defending/invading, all go to show how poorly thought out this game is, which looks really bad for the devs, because you don't have to think too hard when most of your game mechanics are a carbon copy of another game's. Of course, I couldn't finish this review without mentioning the writing. It's legitimately the worst one I've ever seen in a videogame. Yet again, much like in the second game, the narrator won't shut up, except this time, he's in the company of the main protagonist, an evil sorceress you control. They try to outwit each other during dialogue, and it's actually the worst thing ever. For instance, they keep making direct references to nearly every other piece of mainstream media, NONSTOP. "Oh, this is just like with Bilbo and the ring. No, wait, this isn't The Hobbit! Abort, abort!", is the average line of dialogue you're CONSTANTLY bombarded with. Also, your units all have 'unique' names, but instead of being appropriate to the setting, they're names such as, "Kayty Peury", "Lady Gargar", and so on. It's borderline juvenile, and they seem to think they're making the next "The Room", by being unabashed with references, and cringe in general. Well, they aren't. They're just making shit. Now, with ALL that being said, I do still recommend the game in two scenarios: - You're looking for a 'strategy' game that you can boot up and play without thinking much - You're desperate to fill the DK3 void Tl;dr Much like the first two games, it's a Frankeinstein of cringe, bad game design, and plagiarism. However, it has made enough improvements over the second game, it can still be fun at times, it's beautiful, and what this game offers isn't something you can experience in a lot of other games.

An incredible game, I do not understand why folks get upset by the narrarator/story. He is well done, as he has been for every installment thus far. I love this series. I was hesitant initially due to the reviews but, I am glad I decided to give the games a shot. Wonderful so far. DLCs are generally fun, though sometimes I feel could benefit from a slower tempo to allow time to enjoy the dungeon build and map exploration/playthrough.

this game is super simple but super fun. you build a dungeon, you protect it, and you slowly wittle away the enemies forces while beefing your own until your ready for the final push. the narration is dorky and cheesy and hilarious and does not take itself seriously. definly need more games like this.

Great game, highly recommended. Though DLCs lack meaningful content, you're better off getting Dungeons 4 instead of those if you haven't yet.

It is rather mid, but there is not much competition in the dungeon keeper genre so it is servisable. I started on hell difficulty right away, because Dungeons 2 felt way too easy to me, and finished the main campaign on it. It was kinda too simplistic still. At first, you start it, you try to play slow and develop your dungeon, but you are quickly overwhelmed by constantly growing waves of high lvl enemies. Then you realise, ok I just rush them with basically starting army instead, and that solved the majority of the game for me. Just do the same thing about 20 times and you win the game. Basically only two missions in the campaign asked for some adjustments. Both in the very end. One was hardcoded for anti-rush - they barely attack you if you don't attack them, but start pushing from all sides if you do, so you have infinite time to dig-in. And one mission required to rush objective instead of fully clearing the overworld, which is basically just rush harder. And there are couple of no base missions, but those are kinda easy by design in all strategies anyway. So the game doesn't really offers you the situations to use the tools it gives you, and it all feels rather badly thought out and clunky. Writing is too riddled with direct references to other IPs. It will age very fast, like in 10 years noone will get what they yapping about. And it kinda wasn't too klever to begin with, just memberberries basically. Other then that it wasn't too bad. Intermission "cutscenes" are a cheap parody of cheapness, there is no style to it, it is just bad. Just render some sketches on the game engine if you don't have budget like DK2 did. Anything would be better. Guess I'm not a fan of cartoonish style here in general, I'd like the game to be more dark, bloody, sexy and violent. But for the time being I'll have to stick to what I can get. Despite all mentioned above, I'll by the next game, Dungeons 4, but I'm waiting for at least 70% discount on that.
