Too dumb to play without peeking in the walkthrough. Too dumb to follow the walkthrough. A few bugs detected, will restart the game and complete the quests in different order. Dropsy is the best, loved him. Now want a hug. TT

What does it say about me that a barely-sentient nightmarish clown feels like a self-insert (for me, not Jay Tholen, no offense Jay; Project1: It's Time) So like, Dropsy is exactly what every adventure game should be. Gorgeous, great audio, interesting yet ridiculous story, just enough going on in the background to keep you wondering what is coming next, and most importantly never leaving you feeling like you have absolutely no idea what is going on nor how you can possibly find a way to progress further. Make no mistake, I was there 3,000 years ago for the earliest days of (graphical anyway) adventure games, and I understand back then that puzzles requiring brute force solutions like using every item in the game on every object in the environment were commonplace and basically expected, but I hated them then and I hate them now. Kudos to any game that avoids that artificial game length extension technique entirely, like Dropsy does! Hooray!

A throwback point-and-click in that like the classics, it revels in its own quirkiness and taunts you with following the same mental processes as the developers in order to make progress. The story is very sincere and sweet. Truth be told I never became jaded about the animation for hugging each new person befriended. Ditto the charm of re-remembering you have a hug button and wondering if you can hug - you usually can. I wouldn't say it's the type of game for everyone. Its highest points are the cute ideas for interactions, the heart of a point and click where spreading happiness comes above character goals, and the attention to detail of the visuals. While I give benefit of the doubt for being in the same mould as things like Monkey Island and The Neverhood, which were never intended to be easy or perfectly clear, there is a layer of obfuscation to everything the game conveys to you. Some of the dialogue-less speech bubbles can be misinterpreted. Instead of selfcontained puzzles, you're supposed to find objects in some pretty obtuse locations and use them in ways that don't always have a logical throughline, dampening the feeling of figuring out the answers. For example, I had to resort to a guide for the final third because it never occurred to me to use the Mouse to look underneath the fridge in the first area, which had no visual indicator like other Mouse interactables do, etc. I don't think I would have ever completed the game without assistance but, again, being frustrated at a point-and-click is kind of part of the package. I recommend it to people who enjoy that kind of thing.

Honestly, I did not know what to expect going into this one. I half expected it to secretly be a psychological horror title. Turns out its a genuinely wholesome Point & Click adventure with themes of good deeds, love, friendship, prejudice, sadness, loss, and coming of age. The game has no dialogue or text yet it does a excellent job conveying it's objectives, story and message. At first i was put off by the goofy and slightly damp clown but, overtime, he quickly grew on me as a proper protagonist. Visually it's got nice colors & pixel art. It offers a surprisingly good soundtrack too. I walked away from this game feeling good. If you are looking for a short and cozy game to play, this one may be for you.

A million years ago on Something Awful, a guy posted a series of pixel art drawings depicting the adventures of Dropsy the Clown--to great acclaim. Dropsy embodies the spirit of the world that he lives in. He's ugly, dirty, and repulsive--but there's an inextinguishable spirit of kindness and empathy working against all of those negative attributes. Dropsy is just as charming in his games as he was on SA all those years ago.
