This game has mixed feelings about it. On the whole, I really liked the game, especially for this price. It has very nice visuals and quite invigorating gameplay, although the behavior of the cars seems a little strange to me. But not in a bad way, I think it's quite individual, but what I can say for sure is that the handbrake in the game is almost not felt, which is quite strange. In addition to that, the sound design is very disappointing. All the cars sound the same, the sounds of the effects don't sound very nice, not to mention the lack of any environmental sounds on any of the maps and one single song in the game menu, which, I'll be honest, very quickly becomes annoying.

There are robust issues with DRIVE Rally which are easily observable, and given its $20 price tag, these problems may be difficult for some to forgive. However, I was able to purchase it at a discounted rate of $9, thanks to regional pricing. Despite its flaws, the game has carved out a distinctive style that will appeal to many and be an attraction point. It offers a unique kind of appeal—one that invites you to revisit it periodically, even if just to engage in a casual, mindless drive, despite being a rally game at its core. For those seeking pure, straightforward vanilla racing without the complexity of customizing extensive liveries, this game may serve as an ideal fit. I can see this game also going well with Steam Deck or other handheld consoles as it has a previous mobile version. While the handling can be rough, it is ultimately manageable and takes a bit to get used to. The tracks are adequate, set across four distinct environments or biomes: a snowy terrain characteristic of Finland, a rocky desert landscape representing the USA, hills and forests evocative of Germany, and subtropical beaches reminiscent of Thailand. Each environment is associated with a particular racing team, for which the player competes, and is accompanied by a co-driver who embodies stereotypical traits from each of these nations. Although this concept may feel somewhat flat, it nevertheless functions properly within the context of an arcade-style campaign. One curious design choice is the attempt to imbue co-drivers with personalities. Personally, I for one find this unnecessary, and at times, quite grating. For instance, the German co-driver frequently code-switches between English and German, offering caricaturized encouragement that quickly becomes a chore to listen. Additionally, the pace notes tend to overlap and can often be delayed. While, for me, it wasn't a major issue in an arcade game of this nature, it is nonetheless an annoyance. Fortunately, the tracks are relatively simple to interpret, making it easy to memorize them. As a result, I consistently secured first place without much effort. Regarding the leaderboards, I did manage to rank on at least one of them, though this was likely due to the low player count rather than any exceptional skill on my part. The question arises: can the co-drivers pose a more significant challenge when competing for leaderboard positions? Possibly. Although the player does most of the work, co-driver calls can be crucial. However, as someone who does not compete seriously for leaderboard standings, I cannot provide a thorough assessment on this matter. An intriguing, albeit perplexing, aspect of the game is the inclusion of achievements based on playtime. The final playtime achievement, for instance, requires players to invest 125 hours in the game. Frankly, I cannot imagine why anyone would do this, even if they are passionate about the game. The four championships, consisting of largely repetitive tracks, take around 10 hours to complete. After that, all that remains are local races or leaderboard competitions. Without a multiplayer option, this feels rather pointless. In conclusion, while I am willing to give the game a tentative thumbs up due to its early access status, it is clear that DRIVE Rally is in dire need of additional content and improvements, particularly with regard to handling mechanics and co-driver calls. Edit: Forgot to mention the actual pace notes. They are super easy and I gave it bit more time but I guess these are all there is: R/L 1-2-3, Hairpin and Square. No Cr(Crest), caution, jump or whatsoever. The tracks are often flat and there is no risk of dying (lul) so I can see getting rid of some of the caution & yard calls to make things simpler but even jokingly, why there is no water in this game? Or what happened to crests? ★★½☆☆☆ [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/theDeusExFox/curation] Please take a moment to check out my curator for more in-depth reviews

I wanted to start this review by saying I wish there was a 'neutral' button but I keep having fun with the game so I'll just go with recommend. Still I feel it's on the expensive side for an arcade indie title like this, but let's get on with the review: [PROS] - Simple physics that click very easily with arcade race fans. I enjoy driving the cars in the game, it's easy to slide them around and be fast on the tracks. One thing I've yet to figure out is how to use the handbrake properly but the normal brakes do just fine for going quick. - Graphics. Just look at it. It's amazing. From car design to the actual environment the game looks great. All that with buttery smooth performance. - Variety of cars: there are already plenty of cars in Early Access all with different configs + customizations. - Carrer mode in the form of 'Championships'. It's good to have an overall main mode right in EA. - It's an arcade game and it's fun. You get what you see. - Around 5-6 hours of Championship mode content which is okay for Early Access ------- [PROBLEMS] - Note I did not put cons, these are just issues I have with the title - Each championship takes place at the same location. While you can switch between championships if you want to complete them in order you'll race a lot on one location before moving onto the next. Would love more variety there - Overall racing so much in one location does make you notice that some corners and intersections are very much similar. You'll see the same type of corners over and over within the same track even. Would love a bit more variety. OR think about changin championship mode so it includes multiple locations. - Regarding the championship mode - Design over Usability. Sure the menu looks cool but it's rather unintuitive. - No way to replay stages in the championsihp - as far as I saw there is only reset all progress button - Would love to set 'delay - early' on navigator. Right now it feels calls are way too delayed, sometimes I'm already flying through the trees when he is finished with the hairpin call. - Quality control - I know it's early access but when your loading screen Xbox Controller layout points to the wrong buttons I can only wonder how THAT slip through. Other bugs also present. -------- Overall as you can see my wishlist for the full game is quite long BUT it's already plenty fun and it just looks great. If you are into games like this I'm sure you'll have your fun but the dev team needs to work to achieve the full potential of this game. Also, I hope the rallycross mode will make the final game. Driving is fun, would be nice to do it vs some AI.

Runs buttery smooth on Steam Deck, capped it to 60 for batt life but can run 90 frames easy without issues. This little rally game is loaded, many stages and cars and others! This is my favorite rally game for Steam Deck, highly recommend.
