fun game but still a while away from perfection with there being a decent amount of bugs, 1 being that if you play on uncapped fps the steering is uncontrollable and you spin out non stop. so for anyone buying this game make sure to cap the fps so its playable.

this game is not worth buying at the time of me writing this review BUT this game has a lot of potential (the reason why im not refunding it lol) most of what i think is bad can actually be fixed over time so keep that in mind tldr: compared to the trash heap of other skateboarding games this is a pretty good skating game in a genre filled with flops, get this game when its on sale but i think it will be worth it when they fix and add stuff. playing with a controller is important tho positives: -good concept "above decent" execution -sky box is great and art style are nice (in places) -going fast feels satisfying -zooming past cars feels amazing -the ragdoll is the best choice the devs made when it came to a "you died" screen -great level design, some maps give you tons of different choices on how to get to the end -some of the music was chill (personal taste obviously) and it was cool they added that feature -appreciated the camera height settings -the goal system is fun -the overworld car concept is fun but wish their was a easier way to access levels -polaroid level select epicccc -butter wheels is just amazing stuff that made me go bruh: -the sloths face -the game is pretty glitchy every few minutes some weird glitch happens like you will randomly not bump into stuff or if you do your dude just randomly inverts. theirs a whole bunch of glitches so get ready for that.. -some of the trees look naaaasty, they look more like twigs with a tiny but of shaved green drooping off of it. i know this is a weird complaint but seeing how this whole game is set in a comfy forest moutain thing the trees should look visual nice, just fluff em up a bit and make them look bigger. -the combo recognition thingv is a bit weird, sometimes ill go right near a car or dift and it will say nothing but then your swerve right and youll get 2000 points, it would also be cool if their was something explaining what you can do to actually get points besides drive over leaves and drift -i wish they added a system to loop or favorite some songs, ill slightly adjust my audio and it will skip to 3 songs in a row i dont like -the off road system is janky but thats kinda funny so leave it in -wish the game had different stat changes for the board and wheels -MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!!!!! i really wish their was some kind of jump button and trick system, for a game focusing on building your combo their really needs to be more fun ways to actually build it -more stuff 4 speedrunning? combos are great but the speed aspect is over looked eventhough its the most satisfying gameplay machanic -theirs like 3 sloth facts. gimme more i want to be a sloth expert by the time i finish the game. i really hope they add and fix some of the problems because i think this game is pretty good and could be a whole lot better. also i mean no disrespect to any develepor (or sloth) who made this game

Experienced on the Meta Quest 3. VR REVIEW ONLY! You can view my VR gameplay here: https://youtu.be/RdYxQenTkPQ Yes, you too can play Driftwood in VR using the completely free UUVR mod by Raicuparta. It's as easy as downloading the free Raipal app (search for it) and then it'll look at your installed games on Steam and find out what VR mods are available for it. Just click on install UUVR Mono Modern and then click play! It's that easy! Keep in mind it's still early days for UUVR so issues are to be expected. One of them is that the menu does not render in VR at all. Some UI elements do not render as well. Luckily, you can still see them in desktop view so just make sure you can still see the desktop when you have your VR headset on (I can see through nose area of Q3). Game looks good in VR although the world scale is a little bit off so things do seem a tiny fraction too big. I was getting mostly 60 fps during my time in VR on my RTX 3080. I could see some graphical issues at a distance, but it really wasn't too noticeable when you're skating for your life in VR! This game is almost tailor-made for an official VR port. First-person mode and VR poses (T-pose, leaning forward, left and right leaning) would all make this a very immersive game in VR. This would sell like hotcakes with official VR support. In any event, you can play this in VR now and I had a blast playing it! VR Rating 8/10. What a cool, difficult, unintuitive, atmospheric, adorable little game. Once you figure out how to actually control this thing the road opens up before you and it actually becomes a bit more relaxing to play. Just a bit though, because easy is not a word I would use to describe Driftwood. First off, it's got a steep learning curve that isn't helped by a very basic tutorial. It took me 5 hours to figure out what the game actually wanted in terms of control (and I was tearing my hair out those entire 5 hours) but once I figured it out I finished all the goals on all the maps in less than 3 further hours. Infuriatingly the controls cannot be remapped, the sensitivity of the controls cannot even be changed, and the controls can be very, very, VERY twitchy. For a game demanding such diabolically precise control this is a bit inexcusable but hey... Early Access I guess? I cannot imagine even playing this thing with a keyboard, much less doing well with one. Basically impossible. I'm not going to talk about the bugs because other reviews have covered the common ones and there is nothing game breaking or exceptionally bad for this stage of development. Once I did master the controls (I used an xbox 360 controller) I really started enjoying the maps. They're great, and the gameplay is basically Tony Hawk meets 1080 with an emphasis on clean cornering and route selection. The soundtrack is very good but needs more songs, and the game badly needs more maps, more goals per map, and QoL improvements relating to the controls but the bones are absolutely there. Will this develop into an incredible classic to rival the greats of the extreme sports genre? It could. I hope this is the beginning and not basically all we're going to get, as so sadly often happens with other similar Early Access releases. I will update this review as the game develops.

so fun. It gives you that feel of boosting down a hill and its like right on the balance of not being stupidly hard so you can be baked af and just vibe out. I want more tracks. If you could get the track to do the procedural generation and just keep appearing in front so you can just keep carving forever i would be stoked.
