This is a game you play constantly being on the knifes edge. Despite what you may think from other games like this, there is no real safety. You are always one mistake away from getting killed. Lets say we're talking about food, you start off getting lots of it from berry bushes, but use them once, they don't respawn berries for a long time and then you have to look further for more. Build farms, well, those are only good during farming seasons and they don't produce a lot. Fishing is good for a bit, but suddenly the frogs hate you and ten of them start guarding the fishing ponds. Bottom line, there is no one solution to food in this game. You have to use many sources of food, especially in winter. And food expires pretty damn fast. Then there's sanity. This is the demon of the game. It is constantly being drained by everything. Get wet during the rain, it goes down. Get too close to an evil flower, it goes down. Get hit by a monster, it goes down. Eat the wrong food, in the wrong condition, it goes down. And there is no really good way to make it go up. Then there's combat. You are bad at it. The character can easily be overwhelmed by too many foes at once. There are things you can do to reduce the damage a combat encounter does. Techniques you can use to navigate each enemy, but once again, it's on the knifes edge. There's items for combat, but those have limited durability and they're really hard to replace. And the game constantly harasses you. Weather it's the thing lurking in the dark waiting for your light to go out or the weekly attack from the hounds. You have to set up for a lot of things, but when you're being chased by things, it's hard to build a campfire for the night. Even if you have a campfire, more things will appear every night and try to snuff out the fire. God help you if your sanity finally drains low enough. Then all hell breaks loose.

It's easy to pick up and put down- I am not good at videogames, this isn't an exception, but it's fun to play, and losing can be AWFUL but it lets me learn to take risks, and thats been helping me over all bc i play games cautiously- you can't always do that and I need to be pushed out of that zone- I like this game for that. I can take risks and Lose, but it helps me prepare for that the next time. each time I play, I can try and use how I lost last time to try and avoid that outcome. It's predictable enough, and plenty of times it still shakes you up. it's really fun!

Great fun, bit addictive. Have to delete it from my computer during uni semester. Shipwrecked DLC is my favourite. Even though it's a survival game it's quite calming and peaceful, feels like escaping the rat race to go live on a beautiful tropical island. Hamlet is great too but the amount of hours you need to put in to make your house nice and make everything work is too much for me. I am bad at video games so I like to play on easy mode, in this game you can customise how easy the easy mode is and in what ways is it easier. I mostly just give myself loads of extra berry bushes. And extra bees. Extra bees sounds bad but there are several benefits you will find out if you play this game. I love interacting with the monkeys, and building my little camp in the sand and protecting myself from the world outside.

Hands down, the absolute best, most addictive game I've ever played. The tension between having to explore in order to learn how to do new things and not wanting to die makes you actually care about each decision you make, and dying HURTS. Just don't look up "how to do stuff" on the internet, it will ruin the game for you. The whole point is to have to learn how to do things by yourself. And die trying. And curse a lot. And restart with great vengeance and furious anger.
