Dec. 2024
I've been really enjoying the game so far. When I started it, I expected it to be very similar to other farming games (Stardew, Sun Haven, etc.), but placed in a new setting. However, it has a much higher focus on questing, exploring, and base building (not necessarily your base). The farming aspects are more of a "yeah... you can do this as well..." kinda thing. A lot of it feels very tedious. Planting, watering, and harvesting takes an annoyingly long time, which made me contemplate just dropping the farming aspects all together multiple times. And I would have if it wasn't a decent way of getting cash to buy more recipes/blueprints. Pros: - Very pretty/cute graphics. - Relaxed difficulty with some fun combat here and there. - Good base building. - Good crafting system. - Many likeable NPCs with good dialogue. - A lot more content than I initially thought. - At no point did I feel like exploring a place felt pointless. - Devs seem committed to improving it even further. - Some very creative mechanics you don't see everywhere (e.g. lassos to swing, drag stuff, etc). - 1-button "sort items from inventory into local chests", which... I wish more games would have. It's SO nice! (similar to the one in Terraria). - Low stakes when it comes to dying. You basically just lose the time it takes to get back to where you died. Cons: - Some minor bugs in the geometry of the map. Very minor annoyance sometime. - Everything about farming takes unnecessarily long. It'd be much better if times were just 1/10 or at least 1/5s of what it is atm. - Traveling (even with fast travel) takes too long once you reach the "endgame". I wish there were solid upgrades to making it faster. It feels really bad to get somewhere just to notice "Oh... I forgot to bring this one material to build whatever I needed for the quest. - You can't rotate the camera whenever you want. Only in certain moments (e.g. with open building menu). - NPCs only buy items related to their job --> Selling items is a hassle unless you focus on 1-2 things (e.g. crops, metal ores/bars). Overall I think the game is easily worth the full price. Getting it at a discount doubly so. If you're looking for a cozy game that's less about farming and more about completing quests, exploring places (with easy but fun combat), and building little houses/villages it's definitely a good time!

I've tried playing this game several times and there is always bugs that prevent me from completing quests, which is extremely frustrating. I do think this game has the guts to be good, but calling this a 1.0+ build of the game should just not be true. Please fix game breaking bugs so I can enjoy this game. I will uninstall for the 3rd time now and try again in a few months.

I found many of the reviews here difficult to understand, so Iā€™d like to clarify a few things for anyone considering buying this game. I personally enjoyed playing it; it's fun, and the graphics, as well as the overall setting, are great. Itā€™s a cozy game where you build a farm and help some of the citizens. Yes, there are some bugs, especially when trying to complete missions, but most have already been patched, or I solved them by simply relogging into the game. You can also choose to come back to certain missions later; the bugs donā€™t prevent you from continuing to build, farm, or progress in the game. I also came across a post that said: ā€œHostile game, ā€¦ this one doesnā€™t give you a pause while looking at your inventory. Not worth the effort to play this knockoff of a more developed game involving legless, nugget-like people...ā€ I donā€™t really understand this complaint. From the screenshots, you can clearly see the gameā€™s cartoonish, goofy style, which I actually like. As for the lack of pausing while in the inventory, I never found it to be an issue. In single-player mode, you can always pause by pressing ESC. Additionally, there's a handy fast-storage feature: by pressing "N," all your items are instantly stored wherever you want, so when you return to your base, everything is already in place within a second. I wish other survival micromanagement games had this feature. The reasons I recommend this game are: - Itā€™s fun to explore. - It keeps you curious about unlocking new blueprints. - You help citizens and can build their homes however you like. - You can stay on your farm, go hunting, or mine without feeling rushedā€”very cozy. - Despite the bugs, itā€™s more interesting than many other games out there. - There are no in-game microtransactions. I really hope the developers continue to fix the bugs, address clipping issues, and add more building pieces and missions. Keep up the good work!

Wild Indigo Ranch is a cozy crafting RPG with a lot of charm. A little bit silly, a little bit dangerous and a lot of bit fun. Funday Games, the development team behind Wild Indigo Ranch, has been heavily involved with the active community on Discord and should feel proud of the work they've put into creating a living, breathing Western adventure for us all to enjoy.

This is a great game, it's nice, cozy and cute. However they need to go back to the original name "Don't Die in the West"
