This review is kinda tricky: Disgaea has reused the same sprites and animations going back all the way to 2003, and that only works for so long. That's what brings us to Disgaea 6 with the full shift to 3D models, which it'd be a major understatement to say was a HUGE change. On the plus side, I felt like they were able to successfully recreate the style and feel of the sprites with the new 3D models, and I'm really happy with the transition overall. However, if you go into this expecting as much stuff as there was in 5, that's just not realistic when they're basically starting from scratch with this one. They're going to have to build back up to where they were over the course of a couple of games. Tl;dr it's not as good as 5, but I'd still call it a good step forward for the series

Love every Disgaea game, this one is great and I love the 3D. Downside is the "Auto-Battle", Obviously you don't have to use it but too many games are turning into self playing mobile type games. Force people to play the game themselves, that's the fun part believe it or not.

The Disgaea series is not something that would be a fit for every player. One of the gimmicks added to 6 is the ability to auto-battle, and this could be a particular turn-off to some. The thing is, Disgaea has so much that you can do, so many levels and tactical combat floors beyond the main story, so many things to grind beyond just your characters, that it has always been a massive time-sink for anyone who did not just want to run its quirky story. With that in mind, the auto-battle and programmable nature synergizes well with the grind, allowing a reprieve when you want to get some items leveled up fast but don't have the time or patience to put full attention into hundreds of battles to achieve it. You could call this losing gameplay, or you could call it accessibility. Assuming that interest persists with the above, it's a quirky romp through an imaginative netherworld, continuing from the previous world-building in the series. The story is unique/stand-alone, so you could jump in on this game. If you're a fan of Disgaea, then this will scratch that itch.

For reference I beat the main story as well as one post game story. Overall the game is just fine but a step down from what it has been in the past. My main complaints being... -The 3D models are serviceable but have much less personality than the character sprites in the previous games. -I didn't enjoy the high numbers at the start of the game; in the first few chapters characters would gain hundreds of levels and gain thousands of stats yet still be around the same power as level one characters. It just wound up being confusing. -The auto-battle system wound up being a crutch the whole way through. If I failed a mission, instead of adjusting my strategy or placement on the map I found it way more simple to just afk grind for a few minutes and come back. Totally my own problem but just getting bigger numbers always seemed like the best way to proceed. -The characters and story are at an all time low here. Disgaea obviously isn't the best when it comes to telling complex or interesting stories but this one felt much less engaging as previous entries. The characters are also all very *very* one note. (I did enjoy Misedor ,Majolene, and Bieko but they were still super simple characters) -The extra systems they added were fine but they really didn't catch my interest. I for the most part ignored them. Putting the complaints aside this still is a Disgaea game and it brings what you would expect with it. Its hands down the worst in the series but its still a good time. It really is just a middle of the road game for the Disgaea series. If you like the series I would wait for a sale and grab it.

Not the best disgaea, still a fun game and the characters are charming. The maps suck and you fight the same boss 30 or so times. Decent for fans, newcomers should just play 4 or 5.
