One of the greatest turn-based strategy games featuring turn-based battles, and probably the best installment of the Disciples series, an upgrade of Gallean's Return, and a sequel of one of my fave childhood games. Nonetheless, the worst facet of it (just like the rest of series) is random number goddess's whims. Battles sometimes rely far too much on mere chance. Other than that, great. 10/10.

Amazing classic. Played this game when it was new, and have picked it up many times again over the years. Love the progressive troop/hero leveling & TBS aspects of this game. Would recommend to anyone!

WARNING Some players may encounter difficulties with running the game nowadays but it's not a big issue. Just refer to the discussions tab and you'll find any solution you need. Basically it's a 3 minutes problem at best. I strongly recommend you to use "Disciples I & II OpenGL Wrapper" because it solves the most technical problems. REVIEW If it was a modern game then it would be a DLC for sure. The Rise of the Elves (ROTE) not only adds a new race but several updates of graphics, arts and mechanics which makes saves from The Disciples II: Gallean's Return (GR) unable to work so I recommend you to play everything but Elvens' campaign in the GR (my review of GR: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198075304418/recommended/1640/). Anyway the game is great, redesigns are fresh and likeable. I beat it on the highest difficulty but the beginning was a slightly more boring than other races' because Elves are really weak in my opinion so I spent a lot of time to develop my main character. Not many evolution options for melee units which seems unbalanced because range ones are thin even in the late game. However Centaur Lancer has solid initial stats with XP ceiling of 145 so you can simply lock him and get a very tanky first line really fast. That's exactly what I did, tried upgraded ones in first 2 missions and realized it's not worth at all. Healer units are worse than Empire ones in terms of HP and healing potential but have Elemental ward buff which is maybe great in PvP but almost useless in the campaign. Spell book has a lot of debuffs and very few buffs which makes Elves look like Hordes or Legions. This is weird and feels unsuitable lore-wise. Moreover, these rare buffs are laughable comparing to Empire's or Clans'. There are more observations but I think you get my point that some balance update would be great but seems impossible nowadays. ROTE has much deeper story development with captivating details. It tries to put together previous plots and I can say it's quite a success. Thus it's important to play The Elven Alliance last. You can find a recommended order in my GR review through the link above. By the way, the whole Nevendaar's history is told by Ewollin the Storyteller in the final mission. If you find him he will tell you a story every day 6 days in a row. Be warned that if you forget to trigger him in one of the days you will lose a story. The Rise of the Elves is an integral part of whole Disciples II game thus considering it separately is stupid. The game is a masterpiece, just download and play it right now. No reasons to postpone getting your 10/10 experience.
