Reminds me of good time playing board games with friends. It was fun for the first few hours but it got repetitive very soon despite all the different game modes. Nonetheless, a good game to relax on.

It's okay, originally I did not like that it was real-time, but then I realized that you can pause the game and still control the dice while paused, so that is nice. Not a fan of the "tutorial" mode where you have to discover what to do first before you can see the instruction page in the online manual; I believe just telling you before and then you do is better way to teach. Overall the mechanics are good, but I am glad I got it on sale because not sure how much I will play.

Dice Legacy is an underrated board game that feels like it was made by people that don't play board games. That means interesting ideas marred by "HOW DID THEY NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THIS" design decisions. It's not clear at all if holding dice unused on inactive buildings to go above the dice limit is a core strategy the designers intended or cheating in a way they didn't forsee (but you should totally do it regardless). Enemy waves seem relentless at times, and dice freezing in winter is a frustrating mechanic. Used your dice and got unlucky? Now you can't roll, you know, the entire point of the game. You can speed up game time until summer arrives, but sitting and waiting until you're allowed to play again is an insane player punishment. I've played over a dozen games, and there are entire dice classes I see no value in using (Monks) and large sections of the research tree I see no gameplay reason to unlock. And yet, I kept coming back for more. The scenarios offer variety and force you to change up your strategy in order to survive, my Endless Winter game felt nothing like my other runs (like a mini Frostpunk). Ignore real-time mode and play at your own pace.

An odd little game. Playing on the settings advised by the dev (that is, difficulty 3 of 5, and NO PAUSE), it provides a surprisingly challenging resource management / colony builder sim, with individual games lasting ~1-3 hours. The dice mechanic takes some getting used to, but reveals to be a very interesting and clever take: You want to use your dice as they fall, as they already consumed the partial food you constantly produce for them, yet dice placed will take a minute to complete their job. So sometimes you would rather spend the 'extra food' on rerolling dice, particularly if you're under time pressure to quickly generate a specific result (i.e. a sudden bandit attack with your key soldier dice busied up elsewhere). On top of that the game's difficulty increases as time passes, so whilst you *can* sit around with a hand full of dice, not doing anything to conserve food (such as during winter), doing so means you'll fall behind the escalating curve. Tie it all together with a simple, but fitting, audio and video landscape, and an oddly humorous theme of living on a ringdworld, and you got yourself a charming little game with a creative take. Now, I keep saying 'little game', and that's kinda it biggest downside: There are exactly two scenarios. The former being a more lengthy 'campaign' (of about 3-4 hours on a first run when you're figuring out all the basics) and the second being a 'Time Attack' mode in which you have to rush procuring specific resources to meet demands (or be kicked out of office). There are some alternate leaders and modifiers that change aspects of the scenario... but whilst the modifiers can be kind of wacky (such as randomizing all costs), the leaders are remarkably... non-impactful. So I'd argue that the game doesn't have too much replayability value. I mean, I'm at 7 hours, and I may get another round or maybe two out of it before I'll end up bored. But, that shortlivety is reflected appropriately in the price, so it's fair and not a big negative. There's also a DLC (with a 3rd scenario), but since I don't own it, I can't rate it. Is this the next big thing? Far from. Is it a well-executed demonstration of an alternative way to manage colony sims? Absolutely. Is it worth your money? On a sale yes, otherwise maybe. Overall rating: 8/10 Short, juicy, and I would absolutely love getting a full-priced, full-content-width sequel to this.
