Easy to pick up, insanely difficult to master. Simple concept, lots of fun + depth, massive skill ceiling. But becomes more painful the better you get. 10/10 worth buying if you like a challenge!

Nowadays FPS games seem to introduce dozens of different characters, weapon upgrades, abilities, or perks to try to add depth and complexity to the game. Currently there is no shortage of hero shooters and MOBAS that have you spending hundreds of hours just learning what each character item and ability does. There is an appeal to an entropic assortment if characters and playstyles, for sure, but by focusing on a simple-but-good gameplay loop remarkable amounts of depth can emerge from the limited tools the player has access to. If you get a good score in Devil Daggers, it isnt because you had a meta build or that you choose a good character. There are meta strategies, but you have the freedom to enact them as you play. It is up to you to put together all of the tools you have available to push your score further beyond where it stood before. There is a unique sense of growth and accomplishment that comes along with that.

I love and I hate this game, it's simple in design which is something to love and it's probably one of the hardest games I've ever got my hands on, determined to "beat" it. Which is where all the hate comes from.. I finally, after like 300+ hours and initially since purchasing this game for the first time in like 2016-2017, beat it now just a couple days ago.. I got the achievement with 7 milliseconds to spare and boy was I excited! I mean I beat the game, right? Right? If you get in this rabbit hole known as Devil Daggers and fancy yourself a challenge, know you've been advised, it'll eat you alive! I'm amazed by this game and I truly love it. I think the simple aesthetics of the game work out together perfectly with their simplicity in sound design, graphics, details of the enemy.. It's all very simple and in that simplicity is the beauty of this game, also for anyone who enjoys a challenge in general.. You'll like this game without getting too deep into it. It's very hard but it's simple, don't get hit by the endless horde of laughing skulls, do anything to avoid them. The fact that there is no tutorial, the game just kind of throws you into the deep end of the pool and expects you to know how to swim in an instant, right after pressing "Play".. Without telling you how you should optimize your runs, what targets to prioritize or what to do with the red gems, to stop shooting.. (to collect these red gems, to get a better hand/weapon) or when anything spawns (timers are important to know by heart).. It'd be an understatement to say that the game isn't a bit confusing at the start, but for every time you die.. You can try again, from 0, and have a go at it again, in an endless loop where every round is the same and the only goal is to survive for 500 seconds, right? I mean how hard can it be?.. And maybe, just maybe this time you'll make it just an inch further away from that horny laughing skull that's chasing you in comparison to your best round and get that new PB! Here's the real kicker to the balls though.. You'll torture yourself over and over again in an endless loop of going against the same monsters, spawning in at the same time as the previous round.. Your going up against nothing but your own PB time and making a bet against yourself, to survive, to make a new PB. And you are going to die very many times in the beginning and yes it's frustrating and yes, it's annoying.. The adrenaline however when you get a new high score is unparalleled by any other game. There's quite nothing like this game or as challenging as I've ever played before because just 1 mistake or wrong move in the arena can lead you to your death, oftentimes setting you back from a few minutes to 50 seconds at a time and soon your 200-300 second PB time, that you figured you'd beat in an hour turns into more like 1-10 hours of game play time. While the game itself doesn't offer you any free rounds of tutorials or tips, what this game has is an amazing community behind it, everyone is super helpful and always willing to back track some of your game play in order to help you improve and give tips based on that. Trust me, the community is amazing! - Which brings us to Google, Youtube is full of 500+ second runs you can analyse on your own just to pass time and take notes from. (That's what I did, that's probably what most people did). The game has a Leaderboard section where you can go view the full stats and runs of rank "#1000, to the #1 and lowest player" respectively, it's all there, the tools for you to "finish" this game. IF, and only if you are determined to beat this game would I recommend you to buy this. But anyone can "beat" Devil Daggers, anyone. The question is will you? Good luck everyone, you are going to need it. - I love being chased by a horny skull that's laughing at me.

this game is simple and brutal. it offers you two things: an achievement for surviving over 500 seconds, and a place on the leaderboard. it is not a test of one's skill or knowledge, but a test of human willpower; a struggle to overcome a seemingly insurmountable challenge. how could an ordinary person possibly survive over 500 seconds in this game? they cant. no one who is ordinary gets to be at the top. but "ordinary" is something you choose to be or not be. i am by no means a talented gamer. but i wanted the achievement for this game. and i got it. like anyone else who first plays this game, i didnt think it was possible for me, but i kept trying. kept dying. tried again. over and over. i never stopped trying because i was never satisfied. and eventually, through countless attempts and 80 hours of improvement, i survived 500 seconds in devil daggers. i made possible what used to be impossible for me. i got what this game offered, a trophy anyone would be proud to have in their collection. but along the way i got much more than what this game offered to me. i realized my limits are much higher than i thought them to be. i achieved my original goal, but im still not satisfied. i can do better. i can go so much further. to anyone unsure of whether to get this game or not, i hope my story inspires you. give it a go. try your best, and know that your best is much better than what you think it is. devil daggers is pure heart-pounding, brain-numbing action. all you do is pick up a big dagger, shoot smaller daggers at some skulls, and eventually die. but theres nothing else like it.

I hate that I can't feel true happiness in life without also feeling excruciating pain. The amount of failure I experience directly correlates with how good I feel upon succeeding. I wish that I could feel good without feeling bad. I wish that feeling bad didn't make me feel good. After all these hours of torment, I finally got my shiny Devil Dagger. In the end, was it really worth it? Could anything justify the intense hardship I've went through? Should I have quit before the pain got so intense? There are no correct answers here. Whether the Devil Daggers are a curse or a blessing is undecided. Just never forget that when you're tempted by a devil, be prepared to face the consequences. If you really, really want that shiny dagger, you can have it... but a devil is not a saint, a devil is a merchant. Well, like they say in Brooklyn: even a devil may dagger when pissed and shidded and farded and camed
