I think this is the best game ever made and it's not very close. I started playing around the time it went free to play and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No other game does what this one does. I think everyone should get to experience what Destiny offers. This rating is positive because of what this game has meant to me, not because of what it has become. Currently: [*]This game is so unfairly priced that I can't genuinely recommend any of my non-Destiny friends or new players to pick it up to try it out. [*]The community is toxic as hell. [*]The game is dying, fewer and fewer people get on to play every single day. [*]There are cheaters in 1/3 of Crucible games (might just be caused by the dwindling player count making the concentration of cheaters higher). [*]Every new update is bugged (sometimes to the point of unplayability) and results in either server downtime, another update to address it (takes a month for this to get released), or Bungie just giving up and auto-completing quest steps. [*]The new player onboarding experience is abysmal. You're given a 5 minute cutscene to explain the story (since they completely removed the real campaign), a couple of introductory quests, and then you're kicked out of the bird's nest to do whatever your heart desires with minimal direction or suggestion on where to go. So bad, in fact, that Bungie has given up and now provides players with an option to skip it entirely since they know that if a new player is playing this game, it MUST be at the direction of another existing player telling them what to do anyway. [*]The game is riddled with power creep. Guardian kits are the strongest they have ever been and new aspirational content has gotten easier and easier. Realistically, the game needs a reset like Destiny 1 got with the release of Destiny 2, but Bungie's insistence on this being a forever game post-Final Shape has led to Destiny 3 being nothing but a pipe dream while this game wanes in its final days after the equivalent of an Avengers: Endgame story beat. Bungie just doesn't know when to let it go. Some of my best memories are playing this game, but I just can't in good conscience say that you should start playing this game if you haven't already. You just had to be there, I guess.

Not only that I grew up on this game, I watched the beginning, the rise, the prime, and now the fall. From all the memories of doing LFG's with randoms, crucible matches, and making some longtime friends along the way, its sad how the company is treating its workers when all is done, treating the game like its a cash grab at the end of the rope. Ill never be 13 again pulling my first ever exotic, but I will remember the first time beating Oryx at 3 in the morning when we said last try two hours ago. Thank you Bungie for such an astonishing game that reigned over for years.

Bell curve, Destiny goes up and down. When new content drops, play it. When you're done with it and you've gotten all what you wanted form it, put it down and play other games. Rinse and repeat (optional - may be different for all of y'all). Once you accept that this is how it is, you'd enjoy D2. =)

Destiny 2 feels amazing to play, the gun-play is top notch, the build crafting is also pretty amazing. I find myself spending many hours outside the game researching builds and weapon combos. A lot of the game's activities are accessible very early into your journey, including the most recent expansion, the final shape, which is well written, very challenging and well worth the investment. The main downside to the game (personal opinion) is that its designed to appeal to players who want to log in daily, and a lot of the really fun and challenging activities are tied behind long, arduous grinds. Becoming high enough light level (in game recognition of your time spent) to do the best activities is ok, within reason. Destiny has an RNG based approach to gaining higher powered gear, and it can often mean spending a lot of time to earn gear which will drop in a slot you already have at that level. I will often say to my friends this is one of the best feeling and looking games, weighed down by some design choices that really hurt new and more casual players. From my personal experience, Destiny is an amazing game, until you get bogged down in the roots of it. Play it casually and you will come back fresh each time, enjoy your experience and be able to move on when needed. Take it too seriously and chances are you will be frustrated.

4,000 hours later, i decided to finally say my peace on Destiny 2. As someone who loves Bungie's halo games and has stuck with the Destiny series since the D1 beta, Destiny 2 has been an actual roller coaster of commitment. It can be the best experience you've received in gaming, or feel like a collossal waste of time. The management of this current day Bungie is killing any remaining amount of hope I have for Destiny's future. I genuinely wish I could give a mixed rating for Destiny 2. I don't want to downvote it because i don't actually think the game is utter garbage, it's quite good in how it feels to shoot the guns in this game, use abilities, and experiment with the deep buildcrafting system the game has to offer. The storytelling(for the most part) is captivating and interesting, and endgame activities like raids and dungeons are experiences worth sharing with friends. But on the other end, the corpa end, lies the games flaws. The monetization has gotten extremely out of hand. While the game is free to play(closer to a free trial), you must buy expansions and episodes to acquire more content to play. The game also has dungeon keys, event passes, and a whole heap of store items that can be bought individually. It is disgusting how far this has gone and it's increasingly hard to convince any friends that the game isn't horrible every time Bungie adds to the overwhelmingly negative stigma surrounding the game's media 24/7. The community has also taken a pretty hefty nose dive from everything that has happened and you can't really blame them, some of these people play destiny 10 hours a day so at least you're doing better than them. While the most recent expansion, The Final Shape, was a great conclusion to the saga and a well received product, the content that followed the expansion is so middling, it isn't worth sticking around until another big hit comes along. I'm just tired, of all of it. The poor business decisions, the monetization, the aura of negativity, it just can't be healthy to stay in this space as long as some people do. I can ONLY recommend this game if you are going in with a group of friends and if you're able to snag some expansions on discount. I recommend you just focus on having fun with your friends in a bubble, ignore anyone telling you what you should be using or how you should be playing. Play through the stories, get loot, buildcraft, play through raids and dungeons together. Don't buy event passes or eververse items. Don't take the pvp seriously. Just try to enjoy the ride and don't get burned.
