Departed Away is a short visual novel, with lovely pixel art and good OST. Plot is quite interesting and leave you wanting to know more about the characters, the negative point is that you dont have skip button so when you make a rerun you will grew a little bit bored.

This game really surprised me, especially as it is the developers first visual novel. The art is beautiful, the characters are well written and the story writing is absolutely top tier. Its one of, if not the best visual novel I've ever played. There's allot of story to uncover in this game and that's why you have to play it through multiple times to find the whole truth and solve mysteries from other play through's. But in the end, its 100% worth it. This game is a 10/10 I highly recommend giving it a try. Its truly a hidden gem.

That was really fun experince before i tried to get all achievements. Really loved the artstyle, funky music, humor, references and girls. (Ms. Daisy best waifu). Also enjoed Marcel`s story. I wish I could choose my gender in the beggining to romance her. Talking about getting achievements - please add the abillity to skip text that i already read. I`m tired of clicking,,, In the end i want to say that it`s awesome for the first game you made. Really waiting for the new updates. Good Luck !

"Departed Away" is one of those visual novels that makes it hard to rate them as good or bad. The game's aesthetic is simple yet detailed, and it pops so much more than most games of this genre. The music in it, too, fits perfectly with the vibe the game gives off. It's one of those stories that begins quite interesting but slowly becomes relatively predictable. Such ideas have already been used in many games, and this one brings nothing new. At times, the writing feels pretty immature, especially at the beginning, and there are quite some spelling mistakes. Besides, the game throws too many references to other games and shows, which can be distracting. The most drastic problem is the "endgame" that goes by a rush. It would be much better if the game spent a few minutes to wind up the plot accordingly. It is also regrettable that with such a big focus on the characters, there are no special endings for each. There is no button to skip the dialogue that was already read – this makes it a hassle when going over the game again. Here, you will make choices in the game, influencing the story. There are also some mini-games, but pressing "enter" every few seconds to continue through the story can get old fast and prevent one from seeing everything the game has to offer. "Departed Away" still has a good deal of credit for the thematic exploration of mental illness and its promise, through some rather good character introductions. Characters like Marcel and the dynamic of the Loretta/father storyline add depth, though these aspects need to be further developed and given more playtime to resonate. Despite a few missteps, though, there are enough things that "Departed Away" gets right in terms of art and initial character pull that this would be worth looking at. The potential here, combined with the charm currently on display, makes one think that added content and increased polish might further pull this into something far more engaging. Overall, I really enjoyed playing this visual novel.

A developer and first game with potential but lacking in basic aspects [Eng and PT-BR review] Departed Away is a difficult game to evaluate, consider this review as neutral. First, the game's visuals are very good, it's simple but well detailed, it has a unique charisma, something that few VNs, even few AAA games, still have. The OST is also good, it manages to complement the game well. The plot is interesting, but this is where the game's sins begin. While the plot is cool, the game's premise is somewhat easy to guess, many works have already used this idea and the game doesn't explore its use very well. The writing can be a bit childish in some parts, especially at the beginning, the translation also has several typos. Furthermore, the game throws too many game, anime, etc. references in your face, while it's always cool to pay homage, when you comment on so many game references it makes the player think something like "why am I not playing XXX instead of this game?", be careful not to diminish your work by referencing so many others. But the biggest problems with this game are 2: the endings are too abrupt! The game could be extended by about 5 minutes by better exploring the endings. The fact that the characters do not have their own endings is also a disappointment, in a game whose focus is the characters themselves. And the most serious error: the lack of a skip dialogue option, seriously, it is unacceptable to make a novel and not have a skip option. This is honestly a huge detriment to the game. The game has several choices, which determine the route you will follow and even features sections of "gameplay minigames" and simply spamming ENTER, ENTER, ENTER for 45 minutes to see a route, is not something everyone will do. The lack of a skip greatly limits how much people will see of your game and will simply give up seeing what the developer put so much work into writing, designing and programming to do, in addition to players labeling the game as bad for not offering the basics. Departed Away is a charming and charismatic game that addresses mental illness thematics, it is a good experience but could be more practical with the addition of basic tools in this type of game.
