The maps and game mechanics are very similar but overall slightly inferior to the original Defense Grid (Tesla towers in particular have been dumbed down and lost a lot of tactical relevance). The UI is slightly better, but still peppered with little annoyances and inefficiencies caused by the game's "gamepad-centric" roots. How hard can it be to have a normal mouse cursor? Overall, I'd say the original is still better, but if you've already played through that one (plus the Portal-themed "You Monster" expansion), this will give you a bit more of (almost) the same. The alternative game modes don't seem as interesting as the original Defense Grid's, but the main campaign (20 maps) should keep you busy for at least two or three days in standard difficulty, maybe a week on the highest ones. If you can get the main game plus the expansion ("Aftermath", that adds 5 extra maps) for under 10 euros, I'd say it's a no-brainer.
