it's a fine game although i dont like the souls like gameplay, the previous games in the franchise are amazing but this one strayed too far from its original formula

Darksiders 3 gets a reputation of being the weakest game in the series (so far). While I can't decide how I would rank these games, I know that I love all 3 of them more or less the same, and I wouldn't change a thing about this game. I'm coming back to it after a while, and it's way better than I remember. I'm almost at the end of my playthrough, but I can't bring myself to end it--not yet. What really stands out to me this time is the level design. The level designers whisper to me: "You want this pickup. How will you get to it? What tools do you have. What textures surround the pickup? Where else have we seen those textures?" Perfection. A part of me wants to play combat more like the first two games, I'm just not confident enough with such a squishy character. Since you are still reading this review, yes get the game.

My first moments playing this game had me sitting with similar frustrations to most, who thought they were off for another button-mashing romp. The unexpected Souls-like treatment paired with a wildly fluctuating difficulty curve really did make the start feel like a chore. BUT... I am so glad I made some slider adjustments and pushed through because WOW I loved every moment of the game after I got my head around it. I recommend reverting the combat system to Classic, and don't get cocky with the difficulty, Balanced was more than enough to keep me skating on excitingly thin ice without the grind becoming too burdened by endless dying. When you start grooving to those dodge rhythms and stop jealously hoarding your power-ups (seriously, USE THEM!) the combat starts to feel terrific. The world design felt beautifully crafted, the plot had some nice asymmetrical twists, everything had that chunky aesthetic that grabbed me in the previous two games. Somehow it just kept me exploring whilst never growing tedious. I guess sometimes you want something just a few shades less traumatic than an orthodox Dark Souls experience, where you get to mix in a bit more fun exploration. Nice one. Looking forward to Genesis.

DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS!!!! This is a really really great time, very inline with the quality of the previous games in the series, and like 2 from 1, it's similar but also very different from it's predecessors. Combat is a soulslight i'd say, and exploration is very souls like, meaning that the combat demand a little bit more thought than mashing buttons (but you can become very OP at the last quarter or so of the game) and exploration is linear but side paths and side areas are bigger, more pletiful and way less obtuse than the first while not being a complete open-world like the second (it's a series of linear interconnected paths) theres a good amount of things to do and discover and good reasons to come back to previous areas with new hollows. Overall i absolutely think it's worth it even at full price, and if you can, buy the deluxe edition, the dlc is nice if you do as it unlocks, and the rewards are VERY nice.

Darksiders 3 is an experience flawed in more than one way. It's also a part of the franchise dripping with charisma and style. While it's the most imperfect game in the series it still carries with itself the same energy, dark lore, artistic design and edge. This title is an extremely late bloomer. Both in terms of it's gampleay as well as the plot. Fury is the least charismatic and likable of the horsemen. The story revolving around her and the hunt for the seven deadly sins is dripping with potential but unfortunately get's good in the last hours of the playthrough. The experiment of merging soulslike elements with tested action heavy hack and slash roots of Darksiders yields mixed results. The slower, tactical combat model doesn't fully gel with frantic, chaotic behaviour of the enemies. It's full potential get's unlocked later in the story. Boss design on the other hand prooves to be incredibely satisfying, offering challenging fights. This is a chaotic game which defiently got better with time. Gunfire Games released content updates and offered additional combat model accelerating Fury's reactions which makes combat a better experience. The question remains, is Darksiders 3 recommendation worthy? In the current state it's definetly a solid proposition for the fans of the franchise. Unfortunately, for the rest of gamers and soulslike enjoyers it's a skippable title.
