I bought this game in early access so many years ago. It was my first early access game as a new PC gamer. It was and still is an amazing experience that I'll never forget. I even bought it again on Nintendo Switch. My girlfriend at the time, who had never played and never would play the game, bought me the singing merchant plushy for my Birthday. It was the first time a girl had gifted me something so thoughtful and personally endearing. When we broke up years later, she took our cats, our friends, my heart, and the singing merchant. I can still hear his voice and it makes me sad.

This game has a relatively steep learning curve, but in a way that feels so rewarding rather than painful. You can really feel yourself slowly improving and getting better, and it feels so good! It is so cool to just be a different type of rhythm game! The enemies all move in different patterns, and when you finally get in sync with them, it feels so good! Much recommended!!

A game I have over 500 hours in. Do I recommend it? No. No, I don't, not unless you have 500 hours to dedicate to addiction and Danny Baranowsky's epic hits. (Get it. Do it man, get the game. Give yourself over to the pretty colours and dancing.)

8/10 I love this game to bits. Don't get me wrong, it's a very difficult game. It's definitely not for everyone. But it's very satisfying when you finally manage to beat the game with that one character who's been giving you trouble for the past week (or month, or more!) The difficulty curve is a downside for me, though. There are 3 main story characters. The first is difficult, but mostly because you're still learning how the game works. The second is generally a little easier. The third is absolutely absurd, and she's where I'm stuck right now. She has half of a heart. She takes damage if you miss a beat. She can only ever use the most basic weapon in the game. This is a character that dies to a single mistake, and when mistakes include hesitating for more than a moment, it makes for a very solid brick wall that most players run into. I very much recommend trying out the base game before buying any of the DLCs. If you don't like the style of the game then the DLCs won't change that. But for me, the DLCs increased my enjoyment of a game that I already liked quite a bit. All that to say, I really do think people should try this game out. But don't go into it with a completionist mindset. And maybe wait for a sale! They usually come around about once a month.
