The characters are fantastic and what you should play this for. The story is cheesy but fairly fun, and everything going on visually is great. The music is top notch, I've spent more time listening to it than playing the game at this point. Optional side lore is pretty neat and fairly gay; even when it's about a dog or something it'll somehow be gay. Gameplay is kind of weird though. With a bit of this and that you can become functionally immortal while dealing several times the damage you should be capable of to enemies far beyond your level on certain characters, but other times your healthbar is like that of a Soulslike but without the ability to heal, making things very tense. Never try to fight something a dozen levels above you, until you've figured out how to break the level gated damage mechanics of the game.

Crymachina is an awesome mix of visual novel and action RPG. The soundtrack is fantastic, and the voice acting is top-notch. The story really hits you emotionally—it’s so well-written it’ll hit you right in the kokoro. Some of the "tea party" scenes feel a bit forced, especially when it comes to the Yuri/girl’s love moments. The combat isn’t the game’s biggest highlight, but it does the job and keeps things fun. That said, it gets difficult pretty quickly, so you’ll need to grind and stay at the recommended level. The difficulty might catch you off guard and you can get one-shot if you're underlevel. I highly recommend this game, even at full price, but if you can snag it on sale, go for it. It’s a 7.5/10 game for me, and it plays great on the Steam Deck, holding a stable 60fps.

Crymachina is a love letter… Not to the community, not to the genre, but for you. A game that completely flew under people’s radar, yet it’s one of those rare gems that I would recommend everyone to try out. That alone is worth a gold star.

THIS GAME AINT GOT NO BUSINESS GOING THIS HARD WITH THE SOUNDTRACK Seriously, this needs to be an anime, not a game. The combat is *fine* but the story, soundtrack, characters, and writing absolutely overshadow it. I want more story. I would watch every single episode if it was an anime. Play with a controller, and listen to all of the music in game. It's incredibly good.

CRYMACHINA is one of those games which seems to have dropped off the radar. In a nutshell, you're paying for a very well written, story driven game that focuses heavily on it's character interactions and deeper themes within a sci-fi setting. It has fun combat with linear and succinct level design that does a good job invoking atmosphere and imagination but with little substance. It has spectacular art and sound design with a fantastic soundtrack which I went out and bought immediately after finishing. It relies heavily on visual-novel style storytelling but also presents itself with cinematic cutscenes on occasion. Fundamentally this is a compact story driven game, mostly because it doesn't deviate at all from it's core story into endless side quests like most games of today. Expect to finish the core game in 18 hours, although there is still plenty to do in the post-game. A lot of people compare this to Nier;Automata. The combat has some similarities, it's also a game about androids in a post-human world. However CRYMACHINA has a greater focus on character interactions/relationships with one another, tells a completely different type of story with a completely different range of themes, and has a much smaller budget. It can be just as heavy though, and has just as much potential; I was a huge fan of both games and I desperately want a sequel to this one. As an added bonus, Yuri fans rejoice because this one has plenty to offer here.
