This might sound funny, but this game feels super fresh after 13 years of maining CSGO and CS2. For community maps and fun, casual gamemodes, CSS is the best. Simply put, CSS excels at everything CS2 is currently neglecting. I hope CS2 will eventually offer everything this game does and more, but for now they compliment each other very nicely. I miss this kind of Counter-Strike. Also it can run on a potato which is very nice.

Let's dive straight into it 1. Servers Over 90% of the servers are Russian, and these are terrible and overflooded with garbage mods, so dont even dare joining one (not to offend anyone) (don't repeat my mistakes). However I managed to find and join some decent English speaking vanilla ones and had a nice time out there, so it's not completely hopeless. I also always play with 0% player speech volume to keep my ears safe and recommend you to do so as well. 2. Bots and local game You may host a local game for friends, or to play on your own with bots. Servers are quite customizable so there is always room for experiment. Suprisingly enough, bots are pretty fun to play around with. They sometimes may get unpredictable and dumb, which makes game more chaotic and fun, however on hard/expert they also have good tactics and aim, so it offers some challenge. 3. Weapons Guns and controls may seem tough and unresponsive, but once you get the drill you start advancing your skills and it will grow on you. Not to mention a big variety of firearms to play around with and some exclusive features like glock and usp being accesible both for T and CT sides, which is not present in further game's successors. 4. Maps This offers you some truly iconic maps like de_dust2, de_nuke, de_inferno or cs_office, with the last one being my favourite CS map ever. Now with some physical props on all of the maps that get affected by the bullets and make the whole experience more believable. (Commentary: On cs_office you can disassemble a PC buy shooting it and parts like GPU, coolers, RAM, power unit and some other stuff will fall out and thats actually insane for a 2004 game) 5. Personal attitude I'm absolutely loving Source engine games and coudldn't go past this project. Apart from all the cool stuff mentioned above, you also get nice maps and models available in Gmod, as well as textures required to run many community made maps. A truly iconic and one of the most influential games of all time, that remains my favourite one from all of the Counter Strike series. 6. Conclusion Whether to buy or not to buy - it's up to you, but if you are a fan of Source games, like playing Gmod, or generally enjoy 2000s games - thats the right thing for you. I generally recommend you buying this game, preferrably at a discount as I did (10 bucks is 10 bucks) Final rating: 8/10 +MUST-PLAY badge

Yes it's 2024. Yes, you got maybe a quarter of the active playerbase on CS2. But are there tons of cool servers still up with plenty of fun servermods to play with? Is sourcemod still a great server hosting software? Of course, it's still Counter Strike: Source and it's still as beautiful as the day I first started playing it as a child, many years ago. Get it, tell all your friends to get it, and hop on one of the human versus bots servers. You won't regret it. :)

I'll be honest, first time I tried this game was in 2022 for a few hours and that was also the last time I played it. I can totally see why people love it to this day. CS:S feels much more casual than the its predecessors and even its successors, that's why the sweaty tryhards stuck with 1.6, I guess.
