I never had so much to say about a game in a review, but here we go.... Wow, where do I even begin? "Corpse Party" has truly captured my attention in ways I didn’t expect. From the moment I started playing just a few days ago, it’s been on my mind. The story is one of the game’s strongest elements, crafted to keep you hooked. The narrative unfolds with a sense of urgency and dread that pulls you deeper into its web of mystery and horror. The characters are well-developed, each adding their own unique aura to the drama. Their personal stories and interactions are interesting, making you genuinely care about their fates. The game goes above and beyond with suspense and the unknown, ensuring that you remain on the edge of your seat throughout. However, it’s important to mention a downside: I was able to get the true endings in most chapters with ease on my first attempt; however, Chapter 5 proved to be a challenge. The specific requirements and actions of this chapter were frustrating. Without a guide, I would have been stuck on Chapter 5 for days. Despite having to use a guide, "Corpse Party" remains a fantastic and memorable experience. Its ability to deliver a gripping and horrifying narrative is impressive, and it’s clear that a lot of care went into crafting its unsettling atmosphere. For anyone who enjoys a good horror story with a strong emotional core, this game is definitely worth playing. I rate it an 8/10

Love the way the story was made, for me the best part is always the visual of the characters, because i don't see this style of character design anymore, makes me nostalgic.

Corpse Party is a survival and psychological horror adventure game about a group of students in a Japanese high school, who perform a friendship ritual after class to bid a friend farewell who's going to be transferring schools. After performing the friendship ritual, they are thrown into a hellish and mind-breaking alternative reality that they want to escape from, together. It is a 10/10 game and it's unforgettable. If anyone's unsure of the order to play the games: Corpse Party > Book of Shadows > Sachiko's Birthday Bash > Blood Drive > Corpse Party 2 The story and narrative, the game play, the subtle choices you make and how they can severely impact the story, the iconic soundtrack and the pure psychological torture it immerses you into is incredible. It is a deeply thought out and deeply distressing game, and although you play as all the characters in this group throughout the chapters, you really begin to care about them quickly. They are all unique. It's not afraid of pulling you into the depth of human depravity and mental hopelessness in such a compelling way. (Tw- child mutilation and torture, murder, abuse, visceral and hopeless portrayals of mental states, graphic suicide. ) It's heavy, hard hitting without letting up and heart-wrenching. I found a lot of the narrative and feeling relatable, especially the characters mental states throughout the trauma. Each character is extremely well fleshed-out and I loved playing as all of them. This game does have a lot of dark imagery and thoughts in it, so if you are suffering from depression etc and feel that playing a game that delves deeply into very heavy subjects and thinking would impact you, I would say you should skip this one. Absolutely fantastic story and game. I highly recommend it. The story is amazing and the gameplay is amazing too. I have not played the remastered version, so I can't comment on that, but this is a must-have for people who are into the genre. The game play can be challenging at times but the pay-off is big, considering every action you make contributes to the story, narrative and ending. Make sure you take your time with exploring, and remember that every action matters! There is one 'True Ending' to this game, with many 'Wrong Endings' and they are all great to unlock. There are also extra bonus chapters that can be unlocked with your game play. Note: I don't know if others had this problem but clicking the logo to open the game never worked. I went to my folders, then steam apps, and then opened it manually from there to start it. Apart from that, it runs perfectly. It's hard to pick a favourite character because I love them all. This game and Corpse Party 2021 are the same game. Yes the newer version is like the "remastered" version. Somethings are in slighter different spots and so on. I am not writing a review for comparison but more so on this game. This game is a work of art. The story line seems straight forward, but has some lovely plot twists. I have replayed it twice now (100% completion each time) and still love it. Keep in mind: -It DOES follow the same frame work as the anime (can be found in sub on youtube) but does not carry the same ending(s). Personally I prefer the game over the anime for plot and lore. -Also to fully enjoy this game you must like horror- there is A LOT descriptive violence and gore. If you don't have the stomach for things like the 'Saw' franchise, you won't be able to handle this. -Additionally to fully enjoy the plot and all its additional (wrong) ends you should read everything. All conversations, piece of paper, signage. EVERYTHING. The beauty of this game is in the small details. From a bunch of things being connected, to even experiences it provides from different perspectives. If you are not a big reader and just like to skim through stuff or skip, this is NOT the game for you. Sure you can still enjoy it, but its like having pumpkin pie without whip cream. -To add to the previous note, getting 100% game completion (referring to wrong endings as well as the intended endings) is important for lore as well as enjoying the game. It also increases play time. The 'Extra' endings also should be played after you finish the main story. It will fill in the gaps with people you missed, as well as build on the lore. If you decide to get this game I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and I wish you luck at Heavenly Host :)

Alright. Corpse Party is done and dusted. This was a decent title. I wouldn’t call it my favorite game by any measure, and it does have some issues, but despite that, it was a good time. All told, it took me 14.8 hours to complete the True Ending arc with a good chunk of the bad endings and student IDs found as well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118260072 What I really enjoyed was the Grudge-esque story, and the main characters were likable enough. The premise is that a group of friends from a high school get together in a classroom after hours (at night, and during a thunderstorm) to tell ghost stories and celebrate one of the friend’s last day there before she and her family move away. One of their teachers and one of the students’ younger sister surprise the group (sort of), and they all agree to conduct a friendship ritual before leaving for the night. The ritual goes wrong and they are all transported and separated into loosely connected horror realities within a school that had previously stood in the same location as the high school and had been torn down after a serial killing as well as later cases of murder and rape and such, had destroyed the former school’s reputation. The rest of the game is the students and teacher and little sister trying to find the rest of their group while also trying to find their way out of these pocket dimensions and back to their normal world before dying, being murdered, and/or going crazy. Along the way, they’ll solve the mystery of the nightmare school. And that all sounds great. In practice, it does work, but not without some missteps. The how’s and why’s of the story are decently explained, but there are still things left unresolved. There are five chapters, of increasing lengths, and of all of them, I found chapter four to be the most interesting. It’s where most of the reveals happen. The True Ending was maybe a tiny bit of a let down. Kinda anti climactic. Anyway, while most of the characters are well written, some are just filler characters destined to die horribly or go insane without you really caring. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118313353 The voice acting kinda bounces back and forth between being really well done and incredibly annoying. The music OTOH, while repetitive during individual chapters, actually did a great job of revealing a chapter’s overall mood, and the pieces were well done. The level design was sensible and the graphics, while minimalist, were believable and evocative. While you will visit the same locations many times of course, the school itself shifts and morphs, which creates new aspects to things already seen, and offers new areas to explore. The bad endings can by and large be achieved by doing the exact opposite of what you should obviously be doing, making their triggers reasonably obvious. That said, some require you to replay most of a chapter, which I didn’t love, and other than adding some character background, they are kinda pointless and can be easily skipped IMO. The same can be said for the IDs and bodies or remains of previous students pulled into this nightmare school. Interesting, but ultimately not essential to the experience. And holy hell are there a lot of bodies and IDs. The puzzles, of which there are many, are mostly pretty obvious. However, there are a couple that either have completely random triggers, such as walking into a random room nowhere near the actual puzzle; or in the case of two specific puzzles, they don’t actually work properly. They require interacting with specific locations, only they don’t trigger, and I personally only solved them after button mashing in frustration, wherein they did at some point trigger. These issues are mostly in chapter four, which was both the best and worst chapter in the game. Anyway, while I think the cost vs value is definitely there for Corpse Party, and the fun was there, I also think you might want to temper your expectations a bit as far as how good the story actually is vs how much love it’s received over the years. It was fully Steam Deck compatible btw, and your battery life will be maximized playing this title. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3120241767 Oh, and one funny but also practical thing I noticed. At the very end, it advertises the next game, but that does also let you know which game in the series properly follows this one.
