Corpse Keeper is a fun game. It has an interesting theme, style, and gameplay. The combat is a little shallow, but the gameplay loop is enjoyable. However, the developers have abandoned the project on version 1.0. They have even abandoned their Discord. They released an additional game mode to increase replay value and pushed a sale to celebrate the new content, but they have retracted the game mode with no plans to implement it. If you can overlook the lack of mod support, additional content, and the bait and switch development practice - then this is a game worth getting on sale.

8/10 - hidden gem. I have next to no complaints, it's really fun, difficult, and original. The entire game feels and looks fresh, nothing else like it. The idea is amazing, a rouge-like singleplayer fighting game and the AI absolutely is not a push-over. Especially much later on. The best part of the game is fighting a hard opponent going back and forth attacking, parrying, dodging, and just non stop momentum. The combat can look super cool. ---- My 2 minor complaints --- Later game balance for light armor units. Overall feel worse than heavy armored characters in high difficulties. Their strong suit is to attack fast and dodge. But in harder difficulties attack spamming will get you punished and killed by hard AI able to parry well. There is some gear to negate this reducing enemy parry chance but that is just RNG in the end. Better off using heavy armor and perfect parrying then counter attacking with a much harder swing. Your also less likely to die when you miss. Soul crystals becoming dim, the crystal needed to perform your special move. Given out like candy early and add a lot to combat. Without it there is only the one attack button. But in later difficulties they don't drop anymore and you have to go out of your way to purify them to use them. It kind of made the combat more stale by a bit. Although it added a sort of survival aspect and gave them incredible value, I enjoyed them being given out frequently beforehand. I really do like the idea of it but, they should of made it so that corpse components like hearts needed to be purified. Not soul crystals, using them in combat is just a lot of fun. Limiting that isn't as fun as resource managing them.

This game is obtuse and hard to understand even with the obtrusive tool-tips that take up the entire screen in the middle of you getting your ass kicked to let you know that you're getting your ass kicked. But once you get the hang of Corpse Master it's pretty rewarding and has good depth. If you think it looks/sounds interesting I believe you'll be happy if you stick with it, but it requires genuine effort to grasp. I don't know if they're intentionally going for Demon's Souls-esque mystique, but it definitely needs better on-boarding from the developers. I almost gave up out of confusion the first few times I loaded it up. More specifically about the game itself: There are some match-ups that seem unwinnable but I suppose that could just be the variance inherent to a roguelike. Still, it's frustrating when you find yourself in a match where you know you'll lose, no matter how many times you perfectly parry and land a combo on the opponent. I wouldn't say that's too common: generally speaking I think it plays well.

For what the game is and for the price point of 15-10 dollars depending on sale. Really good game to be honest, some jank here and there but over all an enjoyable experience. However the combat can get a bit tedious at times for just 'Whail on the enemy till their guard breaks' However there are ways to start circumventing this via item builds or status debuffs you can apply.
