I was never so damn angry and sad at the same time about a game. Mostly I was irritated though. I did not enjoy it, and I doubt any animal lover will. Don't expect too much; it's a short and interactive story. Still profound with a great message, but I fear it won't reach the right people. Thank you for hurting my feelings.

UPDATE AFTER 3 DAYS: this is one of those rare games that keep getting better AFTER you have finished them. Reflecting about the framing of the story, it has so many layers. 3 hours of gameplay, 10+h on the discussion forums, I know I will keep thinking about it at least for 3 weeks, so it's worth much more than a regular 3 hour game. Don't wait, buy it now. Original review below: This is not Stray. It is a different game. It has some stuff in common, but has much less free areas to explore and jump. It is a much more linear game and it is more introspective, with a narrator and many giant letters telling you what the cat is thinking. You also have a number of choices during the gameplay, making it akin to a visual novel. You have some dream sequences in intermissions where you are a low-poly black panther, since the cat thinks of herself as a wildcat. These are symbolic and reflective. Apart from some very minor jank, this game is very well put together and it is a delightful emotional journey. It achieves what it's set to do, which is to make a statement about loss, trust, attachment and self worth. It is so well put together that I think this is the very first game (from thousands) where I really enjoyed the QTEs (Quick Time Events). I usually abhor them but they are competent here. You really, really feel as being the cat there, with all the thoughts and dream sequences. You feel for her every part of the journey. I completed the game in 3h. It's the right time, like watching a good movie. I don't know much about it and didn't read other reviews. I think it might have different endings due to the choices. DEI WARNING: This game is sponsored by the government of Australia, that might be a turnoff to some people. Also, I'm not sure this is related to DEI policies from that sponsoring, but the game goes out of its way to show many families in the neighborhood when you are walking around and the multiple issues they have. The only family that seems devoid of issues and is happy every time it's depicted is a particular lesbian couple. I can heartily recommend this game, 8/10.

What an odd game. It's the story about an old selfish woman who cares more about what animals can do for her than what happens to the animals themselves, her even worse daughter, and some cat lives they affect along the way. The game acts as if it is portraying a message, and yet the message makes absolutely no sense at all. You could even say that the ending message was unethical, if taken to heart. The sheer oddness of the twisted message makes it worth taking part in in some way. Playing this game and experiencing what it's trying to say feels kind of the same as if you were playing a game about social cues that was written by someone autistic. For some people, the message is going to make them upset and it will make them down vote the game, and that is understandable. But the enjoyment of getting to play the cat still made it fun for me overall, and the backwards convoluted message is something quite different to experience.

Reading some of the comments, especially the negative ones, I'd just say: Yes, the game is "short" (2.5 - 3 hours)... and yes, the game is not for everyone. Probably if you never have had cats, it just might not be for you as I can imagine the emotional parts do not kick off too much. And that is what the game is about, the journey and the feelings, not the "gameplay". As the description, the trailers and the "emotional" tag was not "warning" enough for some, here again: It is NOT a light hearted cute cuddly story about a cat. If you're still unsure, play the demo, it will give you an idea of the game's tone and the direction. Then decide if you want to follow the storyline and buy the game or stop right there. It might save you from wrong expectations.

Oh my heart. This game made me tear up several times. It touched so many aspects of my life I’ve struggled with or am struggling with. I was adopted and was bullied a lot growing up, and I never “fit in”. My mom is also currently dying from pancreatic cancer, and that sense of abandonment has been strong lately. What an incredible game. 10/10 would recommend.
