Unique controls for a point-and-click game but once you get used to it, it's pretty simple. You can also modify the controls in settings. Puzzles were playable without any hints or walkthroughs. I personally enjoyed the mini card game because it wasn't super hard and is something I could maybe play irl! Story was beautifully written with clever and tongue-in-cheek dialogue. Short game, but worth a play!

Pretty good adventure with some nice puzzles to solve that never leave you completely stumped and it's usually very clear what you need to do next. The story is surprisingly complex and layered, which leads to my only real complaint about the game: all that careful story-building pretty much just gets swept away in a cutscene at the end, You don't even get to foil the villain yourself, it just takes place as past of the cutscene and several plot threads I was looking forward to resolving myself also either get tied up for you or left dangling with no resolution. It's a good game at a sale price, but the ending does fizzle out.

Cleo is the tale of a girl who just wants to adventure like the great pirate Captain Cabeca she constantly reads about. It's also the tale of her ability to collect others' stories: Malthe the cocktail maker, Avery the writer, Teddy McInally the creator of Kraken Fodder, Pitt the creator of the best cutting board and Sushi Madness chef, and so many other characters. Thank you to Christoph Schultz for trusting us to listen. 6.5/10

This game is JAM-PACKED with love and charm! Not only does it have a fun mini-game you can teach someone for fun, but it more importantly has an INCREDIBLE story to tell! I'm not the most well-versed in point-and-click adventure games, but from what I know of them they are paid a dear homage in the characters and absurdity they are known for! The visuals are great, the animations are fantastic! Something that I truly did not expect from this game was the plot. There are so many ridiculous things that happen that eventually make a comeback later for unexpected payoffs that I quite enjoyed! Two incredibly minor complaints: There is no consistency in how the names are pronounced. This is either a consequence of low-budget direction or one of the many ribs at adventure games that likely went over my head. Again, super minor if it wasn't intentional! The other is that the music can feel a bit repetitive during the 'meat' of the game, where you are free to roam and solve the puzzles and no notable action is occurring. Though the music is overall really good, and I beat the game in less than 6 hours, so it doesn't hurt the overall experience too much. One last thing: The final chapter was REALLY cool! Again with amazing payoffs, and just a touch of that boundary-breaking meta gaming that I absolutely adore! 11/10, Cleo is a WONDERFUL tale that deserves to be heard! Give it a listen, won't you? ;)

Alright. Cleo - a pirateā€™s tale is done and dusted. This is a feel good kidā€™s adventure reminiscent of The Goonies, but with adult sensibilities, wrapped up in a seamlessly controlled point and click package. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3148666579 The writing utilizes a lot of literary and movie references as jokes, which is always appreciated. The overarching story is that Cleo, the daughter of a former pirate and current bar owner wants to go on an epic pirate adventure rather than live her current dull bartenderā€™s daughter life. And she, through a certain set of circumstances, gets her way. The writing is always mindful that the listenerā€™s (gamerā€™s) good time is paramount, and fun is always a priority. There is a narrator, but the characters in the story are also all voice acted, and the voice acting is perfect for the game. Additionally, the soundtrack is really nice. And the sounds of the world breather life into this island romp. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3148666437 Gameplay is point and click, but the controls are not stiff, and itā€™s offered with a more isometric POV, with the freedom of movement youā€™d expect from such. The vacuous PnC logic is thankfully non existent in this game. Every item has a sensible use, and thereā€™s really no trial and error outside of equipping the proper items. You will get a prompt if you have the proper item equipped and are next to where the item would be used, which is nice. If anything, itā€™s the locations that you might sometimes pass over and miss. The graphics are lush, and while in line with some of the more colorful PnCs out there with that cartoonish vibe, the attention to detail is a bit more on point. There is a fishing mini game as well as a card game called Kraken Fodder. The fishing mini game requires learning the proper combinations of colored lines and bait in order to succeed. Kraken Fodder is kinda like an interesting mix of War with a hint of Uno. Or somesuch. Itā€™s pretty fun. I played on the Steam Deck and there were zero technical issues. The game ran perfectly at default settings and the battery life was close to max on mine. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3148665950 All told, it took me a bit more than five hours to conclude, which featured a bit of downtime as I chewed on how to solve a few puzzles that werenā€™t specifically item-centric. Cost vs value is there at retail, but given how often this game sees deep discounts, youā€™re probably well served to buy it on sale. Itā€™s definitely well worth playing either way. Obligatory pirate joke: Whatā€™s a pirateā€™s favorite type of music? Rum & Bass!
