Fun game. I suggest buying Rivals though since it has more features. What I do like about this compared to Rivals is that the menu is more suited for single player.

If into the likes of Warcraft and Starcraft - then Circle Empire is a fast paced and fun alternative. This one's cutely cartoonish fresher take on RTS with a non-existent learning curve. Probably also inspires those usually aren't into real time strategies. Games don't often take much time either; the game fits to be whooshed away during lunch breaks at work. Native Linux support is a plus from these wonderful fellow Estonians. One thing lacking though; Circle Empires doesn't have cloud saves!

A lot of different units and tactics you can develop to complete the game, it's very fun! It feels like it's repetitive after like 5-6 hours.

Summary: 6/10 - A mini-RTS that fails in basic areas like balance and AI with exploits everywhere Circle empires feels like an attempt to throw things together and see what sticks. The basic circles can have one to four entrances which can be fortified. Towers can support this while workers harvest resources. As formulaic as the symmetric maps are as formulaic is the meta. Get bank for gold, start using heavy cavalry. Switch to counter units for harder problems on higher difficulties (like catapult spam to kill spawners in 200k dragon clusters). Then use AoE spam. Many commanders have few, nearly banal differences once unlocked. Those that do have drastic differences are so imbalanced to the meta (especially the mermaid queen or the pumpkin wizards or the death knight) that playing them is like shooting yourself in the foot on higher difficulties. These difficulties are generated by braindead attack speed, resource generation and automatic respawns. As such the obvious strategy is to focus down the spawners and towers since outside of Empire mode they don't get rebuild. This is another of his games problems. Hundreds of units fight, as such targeting specific structures inside tons of enemies to get rid of them once a battle started is nigh impossible. Your units constantly chose weird routes to a goal, sometimes triggering another battle by cutting through unowned tiles and triggering extra battles for you. As a final insult, winning on impossible does not unlock nightmare, experienced, hard or normal achievements. So you have to speedrun the lower difficulties anyway (for completionists). This type of time sink is not well received in modern times. Someone that beats impossible obviously shouldn't be forced to play normal. Despite all these obvious issues there are some fun elements to this quirky, cheating game, which is far too easy on normal and ridiculously cheating on nightmare. Cheesing nightmare empires with a Angie warlord blitz or beginning a war of attrition with catapult sieges on Impossible conquest are interesting. Getting the 200.000 gold deed by using a poison pool with three gold converters on death and spawning workers for 150 food to turn into 60 gold is further a ridiculously dark emergent feature. This game is above average, it is a 6. That however with lack of polish, balance and blatant shortcuts in AI design is all I will ever grant it. It's easily completeable in 10 hours if you set your mind to it and got RTS experience. The Apex monster back is really not worth it though. It adds effectively the same as before with minor new enemy types. It's more of the same.

This is a simple RTS with a bit of content, this is the game you would play when you wanted to spend like an hour just playing an RTS that doesn't require a spreadsheet and 4 hours to play a game (looking at you C&C, starcraft, etc.). Units have depth to them depending on the commander, some add challenge some have powerful functions when taking circles over. No matter your skill level either beginner or expert, there is something for everyone here, but if you are looking for an in depth story or lore, there is not anything here for that. In short, this game is an RTS lite, enjoy taking the mountain tops!
